Position Overview
As a Manufacturing Operator, you will be responsible for performing a variety of processing and packaging operations to mass-produce roasted, ground and/or flavored coffee products. Our talented manufacturing team produces the iconic Community Coffee brand products loved by loyal customers across the country!
Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities
Follows all safety (Community Coffee and Government), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping and sanitation rules and regulations and procedures while maintaining an efficient operation. Maintain a safe/clean working environment.
Sets up, operates, and shuts down equipment according to production requirements, timelines and manufacturer specifications.
Monitors high speed packaging equipment and systems to ensure the product meets quality and efficiency standards by executing routine quality and maintenance checks.
Must be willing to learn to operate several different types of packaging equipment as well as processing equipment as production and scheduling needs require.
Responsible for the safe efficient operation of production equipment and attainment of the prescribed productivity requirements of each production line operated including quality checks, adherence to production schedules, equipment changeovers and safety
Operates one or more machines in various areas, such as green coffee receiving, automatic roasting equipment, automatic grinding equipment, flavoring equipment, and rework or transfer equipment.
Demonstrates the ability to initiate startups in their assigned areas by preparing equipment and materials as well as properly shutting down their equipment
Operates, monitors, troubleshoots and adjusts various equipment parameters to maintain target efficiencies and quality standards
Submits a daily production report at the end of each shift and maintains and up to date equipment log detailing settings that may have changed or listing steps taken during trouble shooting. Records production output, downtime reasons and durations, run hours, and other data as required
Performs quality checks as specified by established guidelines and communicates with supervision and the quality assurance department when checks are out of spec
Demonstrates ownership of the preventative maintenance program of his/her assigned machinery i.e.: (cleaning to inspect, lubrication and developing planned work orders to be submitted to maintenance via Supervisors.)
Actively works with maintenance in the repair of their machinery by providing troubleshooting information, assisting with repair activities while maintaining a clean and safe work area for everyone performing the repairs
Responsible for sanitation and maintenance of self, equipment and work area to have knowledge of and to comply with CFR 110 - Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Global Food Safety Initiative Standards
Perform other flexible Operator duties to include but not limited to, house cleaning and clean-up, bailing cardboard, working on recycle cardboard, disposal of garbage, operate trash compactor/bailer
Transfers raw materials via rolling hoppers, pallet jacks (electric and manual) or forklifts
Assists in other areas/workstations as production needs require
Attends all training as per Port Allen, Corporate, Federal, and State requirements
May be requested to perform different or additional duties as assigned
Must be available to work varying shifts when necessary.
Position Requirements:
Manufacturing Operator I - (1 year of related experience and/or training.)
Manufacturing Operator II - (2 - 4 years of related experience and/or training.)
Manufacturing Operator II - (Minimum 5 years related experience and/or training. Specific experience with high speed packaging equipment is required.)
Ability to properly use basic hand tools
Familiar with mechanical terminology
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be available to work 2nd shift (11am - 9:30pm)

Plant Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment from production machinery is usually very loud.
