About the role:
The Director, HR Compliance/Investigations serves as a critical contributor and advisor on Global HR matters, including compliance with existing/emerging employment laws, policy development/administration, risk mitigation, data management and employee/HR training. They will also serve as the lead investigator on complex employee relations issues for North America and Bermuda and act as a senior advisor on routine employee relations issues for our HR Business Partners.
The HR Compliance function is a new function we are looking to establish. This independent contributor role will have the ability to both influence and materially contribute to the key areas of focus for this function across the globe. This individual will have hands on responsibility for many aspects of this role within our North American and Bermuda locations and will partner closely with our HR teams in our other locations to ensure strong HR Compliance and best practices across the rest of the globe. This individual will need to build a positive rapport with our HR Centers of Excellence to influence a high standard of compliance across all HR functions.
ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES
Employment/Data Privacy Laws - Partner closely with our HR Centers of Excellence and Legal teams across the world to stay attune to/ensure compliance with the evolving landscape of federal, state, and local HR/Employment and Data Privacy laws impacting the way in which we operate.
Policy Development and Compliance - Partner with various stakeholders across the organization to develop, implement and uphold new policies and standards. Responsible for regularly updating company policies and colleague handbooks to reflect legal changes and best practices. Responsible for monitoring employee compliance around key policies and following up as needed to maintain high compliance rates.
Standardize HR Procedures - Ensure consistent and fair HR procedures exist across all HR Centers of Excellence i.e. for recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Create response plans for potential incidents such as legal disputes, or data breaches. Establish clear procedures for handling and investigating incidents and ensure that corrective actions are taken promptly.
Employee Training/Education - Partner with our Learning Team to ensure global employee training requirements are met across topics such as anti-discrimination, harassment, retaliation etc. Conduct training sessions for employees and management as needed on Company policies or best practices.
Record Keeping and Documentation - Partner with our HR Centers of Excellence to ensure consistent standards are met around data management and privacy (i.e. employee data, payroll, timekeeping, and compliance-related documentation). Ensure consistent standards are met across employment-related decisions and actions, such as disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
Complaints and Investigations - Serve as Lead Investigator on complex employee matters for our North America and Bermuda locations. Investigate complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or other complex workplace issues in a timely and thorough manner. Responsible for ensuring a sound investigation process is followed, appropriate documentation is prepared, evidence is gathered and in close partnership with law and Head of Global HR Compliance, and recommend relevant courses of action. Partner with our other global HR counterparts to stay closely attune to workplace issues and ensure best practices, thorough investigations and legally sounds decisions are made by local offices. Ensure that investigations are conducted fairly and that appropriate corrective actions are taken. Conduct, and coach HR Business Partners to consistently address routine employee relations matters, inclusive of handling intake meetings through ensuring sound resolution and follow up on employee matters.
Risk Management - Collaborate with HR colleagues to routinely review procedures/practices and business processes to ensure compliance with Everest's business needs and with applicable international, Federal, State, and local employment laws and regulations. Partner to establish/uphold high standards, consistency and execution of HR policy and processes, and identify/assess potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor changes in legislation and adjust HR policies and practices accordingly and work with legal counsel to address complex compliance issues and manage potential legal risks.
Collaboration with Other Departments - Work with other departments, such as Group Compliance, Legal and finance, to ensure cross-functional compliance with regulations. Provide guidance and support to HR peers, managers, and supervisors on compliance-related issues.

Required Skills and Experience:
Qualified candidates should have a minimum a Bachelor's degree, J.D. is a plus.
10-15 years of experience as an HR practitioner specializing in HR Compliance and employee relations, preferably in a Human Resources, professional services organization or law firm.
Proven experience and competence in most of the aspects of the role and responsibilities as noted above.
