Summary: The primary duties of the position include assisting in the design, testing, and documentation of product mixes to ensure high quality concrete products in the company ready mix and block production divisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Assists all company owned locations in mix design and product development of concrete products. Works as a product advisor for new concrete technology and admixtures to production and management staff and contractors. Performs quality tests on aggregate and concrete products including, but not limited to, field testing (slump, air content, unit weight, yield, cylinders, etc.), gradations on production aggregates, and lab work (compression testing and scheduling). Mixes and tests trial batches. Maintains all necessary certifications for testing procedures. Maintains lab areas and lab equipment according to industry quality control standards. Prepares documentation for company personnel and contractors, certifying the product quality. Maintains computer database and reports. Effectively communicates and responds to production and customer needs. Must attend jobsites to address customer service and quality control needs. Assists in the development of Quality Control Program to assure high quality products at economical cost. Develops appropriate concrete product knowledge and other product offerings including, but not limited to, insulated concrete forms, decorative concrete, and other related products. Conducts all business activity and customer relationships in a highly ethical manner.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience Requirements:
Some education beyond high school and/or related experience preferred but not required. Minimum Iowa DOT PCC Technicial Level II and ACI Concrete Field Tech Level I. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision. Requires excellent recordkeeping skills, math skills, as well as knowledge of computers, calculators, and testing equipment. Good knowledge of concrete products and related construction materials. PC operating skills needed, and some industry specific software experience preferred.
Physical, mental and environmental requirements: This is a high energy and mentally demanding position. Daily problem solving is needed using engineering concepts and specifications and interpersonal skills. Good vision and hearing are required to communicate with a variety of employees, suppliers, and other management staff. Must be able to distinguish colors, size and other elements concerning the Companys products and materials. Some occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds may be required along with regular standing, walking, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing, and grasping of objects. Most work is performed outdoors, which is subject to seasonal Midwest weather conditions (summer heat and winter cold) dirt, dust, oils and equipment noise. Some travel may occur requiring a valid operators license and good driving record. Position also requires high levels of personal integrity and initiative.
