Description: JOB SUMMARY: Nabors Alaska Drilling (NAD) operates in and around the State of Alaska with some of the most unique oil and gas drilling rigs specially designed to drill wells in extreme Arctic conditions. The Derrickhand performs rig derrick work - tripping in and out of well bore, drilling fluid mixing operations, drilling fluid property sampling, monitoring of well bore returns, maintenance of mud pumps and drilling fluid circulation system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform daily inspections per SPCC plan

• Record drilling fluid properties and chemicals used

• Maintain spare parts list for solid controls and circulation equipment

• Work from derrick racking board during tripping operations, latching and unlatching drill string elevators

• Maintain drilling fluid solids control and circulation equipment

• Carry out routine drilling fluid property sampling

• Mixing of drilling fluid chemicals and maintenance of drilling fluid properties

• Participate in emergency drills

• Perform cleaning and maintenance of rig drilling fluid pits

• Follow NAD and customer operating and reporting procedures

• Maintain clear communications with relief, mud engineers, driller, rig manager and pushers

• Participation in safety, spill prevention and pre-job meetings as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Have knowledge of, and understand NAD's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policy

• Have knowledge of possible health, safety and environmental impact. State and Federal regulatory compliance requirements associated with oil and gas drilling operations

• Have knowledge of Environmental management System (EMS) operation, key personnel and their functions, and responsibilities

• Correct use of required activity permits and MSDS sheets

• Implementing NAD safety and hazard recognition programs each shift

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos

• Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume

• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme weather conditions. Temperature reaching as low as 50 or more degrees below zero during the winter months. Employee is occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; heights of over 95 feet. Employee will work in an environment where they are or could be exposed to high noise levels, extreme heat or cold, toxic, caustic and/or hazardous chemical, fumes or airborne particles. Workers are required to wear personal protective equipment while on the job.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS:

An individual will be required to work the majority of hours in remote industrial environment, and will need to be able to quickly respond to a change in work demands. Occasional lifting from 1-50lbs is required. (Reasonable accommodations ma be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions).QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 2 years experience as a derrickhand or higher position

• Current MMS Well Control Certificate (preferred)

• Arctic Experience (Preferred)
