  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

  • Interest in the uses and management of data.

  • Ability to work independent experience required.

Primary Responsibilities:


Purpose of Job: Collaborate with the GIS and Database Specialist to assist in various aspects of software and database development projects. This internship will provide hands-on experience in creating interactive and user-friendly applications, utilizing R programming language and associated packages. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about technology, possesses strong programming skills, and has a keen interest in data visualization and analytics.



Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, and test software solutions.

  • Design, develop, and deploy R-based applications for data visualization, statistical analysis, and reporting.

  • Utilize Shiny framework to create interactive web applications with user-friendly interfaces.

  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions and provide innovative ideas for project development.

  • Perform debugging and troubleshooting to ensure software quality and functionality.

  • Research and stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in computer science.

  • Document processes, procedures, and project updates as required.

  • Process automation, including writing scripts to automate workflows.

  • Learn to program in R, AQL, and LaTeX.

  • Must be able to work at a computer for multiple hours at a time.





Supervision:
Direct supervision from Alex Hettena for day -to-day instruction. Alex Hettena will also act as the Faculty/Staff Mentor within the STEM Internship Program. General instructions and work periodically reviewed by the DevTeam.

STEM Internship Program:This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTS) SRSU STEM Faculty Internship Program. Along with the normal job duties, the student will learn from the faculty supervisor about the STEM workforce, different career pathways, research, and more. Students will gain knowledge, experience, and professional connections in the STEM field. Students will have access to professional development tools throughout the internship program (resume building, interview practices, etc.). All other duties are assigned unique to the department. Responsible for the personal safety and the safety of others. This position is security sensitive.
