OPPORTUNITY:
The School of Design and Construction (SDC) at Washington State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Interior Design. A successful research/teaching practice translates research into teaching in both studio and non-studio core professional program courses in the Interior Design (ID) program's core curriculum. The ID program's emphasis is on student success and industry engagement and is accredited by CIDA. This is a 100% FTE position with a 40% Research, 40% Teaching 20% Service workload distribution.
The Interior Design program exists within the SDC which is comprised of academic degree programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. The SDC is housed within the Voiland College of Engineering & Architecture (VCEA), providing access and potential collaborations with faculty and students in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science. DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Duties for this position are to teach courses central to the core interior design curriculum in the Interior Design (B.A. and/or M.A.) programs.
Responsibilities of the position include the following:
Teach undergraduate and graduate level interior design studio, lecture, and seminar courses and courses in allied discipline within the school, as assigned.
Develop a nationally recognized research program which produces peer reviewed publications and successful grant applications and awards.
Participate in program and school committees as well as college and/or university where appropriate.
Participate in the Council for Interior Design (CIDA) accreditation process.
Participate in student advising and mentoring.
Required Qualifications:
Professional Master's degree in Interior Design or closely related field by the time of hire from an accredited insstitution.
Three (3) years of practice experience in interior design demonstrating comprehensive professional knowledge and expertise.
Higher education teaching experience in an interior design program or closely related field.
Demonstrated capacity to engage with people from diverse disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Interior Design or closely related field from an accredited institution. All but dissertation will be considered with an expectation of completion within one (1) year of hiring date.
NCIDQ Certification.
Four (4) or more years of professional practice in interior design.

Academic Year (9 month) salary: $78,000 - $88,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
