Preference will be given to candidates working at the interface of chemical engineering and bioengineering to uniquely strengthen our existing research programs. VSCEB has a strong focus on the research of catalysis, CO2 fixing, plastic recycling, electrosymbiotic engineering, microbial biofilms, metabolic engineering, molecular programming, human health-related protein and tissue engineering, and biomechanics. Successful candidates are expected to build collaborations within the Voiland School and with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, other WSU departments, nationally and internationally.
Required Qualifications for all candidates at all ranks:
An earned PhD in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field prior to the start of the appointment.
Ability to teach core bioengineering and/or chemical engineering classes and commit to services and collaborate with diverse internal and external groups.
Demonstrated record of scholarly work.
Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
The potential to establish a strong, nationally recognized research program with extramural funding that complements and uniquely enhances existing programs within the school and Washington State University.
Required Qualifications for Associate Professor:

About The Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering:
The individual hired for this position will join existing faculty members in the VSCEB. As of Fall 2024, 240 undergraduate students and 41 Ph.D. students are enrolled in programs offered by the VSCEB. We currently graduate about 70 BS students and 13 Ph.D. graduate students each year. We plan to grow our undergraduate and graduate programs through new and innovative research and educational offerings. The bioengineering program has an exceptionally strong focus on electrochemically active biofilms, electrosymbiotic engineering, molecular programming, metabolic engineering, human health-related protein and tissue engineering, and biomechanics research. With over $6.2 million in recorded annual research expenditures, the VSCEB faculty has an outstanding track record in receiving 6 NSF CAREER awards and acquiring several multi-million-dollar collaborative research grants and many individual project grants from NIH, NSF, DOE, USDA, ONR, DTRA, and other federal and private funding agencies. In addition, the bioengineering and chemical engineering faculty have established strong synergy with other faculty in biology, chemistry, microbiology, neuroscience, and materials science as well as the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine and the medical community in Spokane, WA, on human and environmental health-related research. Furthermore, our chemical engineering and bioengineering faculty are integral to one of the nation's longest-running, NIGMS-sponsored Ph.D. training programs, which is focused on protein biotechnology.
