Job Description
The Meter Service Technician provides excellent service to our customers, shareholders and employees by successfully managing the metering program of the company, including the inventory, testing, repair and replacement of all water meters. Maintains the electronic meter reading equipment, meter routes and system software used to collect meter reads for input to the customer accounting system. Performs other duties required to maintain the company's customer accounts, including meter installations, changes, removals, high bill investigations and collections. The Meter Service Technician performs a wide variety of duties and tasks including:
Testing, repair and replacement of water meters.
Evaluates and records meter test results on standard forms and submits a monthly summary to supervision.
Enter meter test results into Company database for reporting and tracking purposes.
Maintains the meter inventory and accurate records of all new, returned for repair or stock meters received, and meters issued for installation.
Disassembles, cleans and repairs meters, replacing parts as required in accordance with established procedures or instructions. Insures accurate assignment of water meters to customer accounts.
Maintains required inventory of meter repair parts and initiates requests for purchase.
Recommends improvements in methods or procedures for testing or repair.
May be required to test, repair, or replace large meters on customer premises.
May be required to direct the repair and testing of meters by others in accordance with contracted non-rate revenue projects.
Submits recommendations to supervisor as to improving reading routes or schedules and participates in the placement of new customers within a route.
Capable of explaining rates, reading method, meter operation and company policies.
