JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greets patients and their caregivers. Completes simple registrations and assists patients with paperwork. Answers telephones, ordering supplies, responds to electronic communications, responds to questions, relays calls to the appropriate department in the lab, faxes reports to providers when requested and contacts physician offices as needed.
Ensures the provision of phlebotomy services for Laboratory patients including but not limited to: dispatching phlebotomists for blood draws based on order of priority, ordering, charging, crediting, and canceling of test procedures via computer system in a timely manner.
Provides corrective actions, service recovery for operations as necessary. Provides training and education to other personnel as requested.
Processes requisitions for disposition of reports to lab files, outreach clients, physician offices, home health agencies, and other appropriate locations. Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customers as requested including, but not limited to, the provision of accurate and timely information, resolution of common problems, and communication to all necessary parties.
Utilizes the JMH computer System(s) and the outreach computer system(s),printers, scanners, etc. for orders/requisitions from in-house and outside providers; coordinates orders/requisitions according to the time requested and location, following all laboratory procedures. Troubleshoots and makes best practice recommendations.
Promotes positive relations with co-workers by: using positive communication methods; demonstrating commitment to the Mission and Values of the Hospital; striving to improve the image of JMH and demonstrating a commitment to customer service and continuous quality improvement.
Provides guidance for customers as it relates to the laboratory department and multiple procedures and operations.
Attends meetings as designated. Participates in professional activities and continuing education to maintain technical skills.
Provides phlebotomy services in the absence of a phlebotomist. Is proficient with phlebotomy skills, including the use of phlebotomy equipment, patient preparation, specimen collection and computer entry.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
Performs additional duties as required which relate to the function of the hospital.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must maintain current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers required. Minimum of one year experience in a phlebotomy/laboratory position required. Experience with office equipment, computer software and medical terminology required.
