Location: San Antonio, Texas
The Role:
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our laboratory to make new discoveries in the area of within-host dynamics of infectious diseases and immunology. In our theoretical immunology laboratory, we combine mathematical/computational modeling of pathogen and immunity dynamics with experimental data. At Texas Biomed and beyond, we collaborate with world level scientists who provide us with experimental data to parameterize and test our mathematical models. Analysis of experimental data and fitting mathematical models to data are the key components of the research in our lab. The main directions of the research in the lab are focused on 1) within-host dynamics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, 2) how malaria parasites establish infection in a new host (and how host immunity may prevent it), 3) mathematical modeling of T cell and antibody responses to infections and vaccinations locally and at the whole-body level. Successful applicant will work on projects within these broadly defined areas, with a focus on modeling dynamics of viral infections such as HIV/SIV, Ebola virus, Influenza virus, Chikungunya virus, and will be expected to develop new directions of research in the lab.
Primary Role:
Our Ideal Candidate:
A highly motivated individual with a Doctoral Degree (e.g., Ph.D. or equivalent) from an accredited college or university with strong background in computational/mathematical modeling, good communication skills, solid programming skills, and ability (or willingness) to work with experimental data of different levels of complexity. Some knowledge of infectious disease biology and/or immunology is a plus. In short, we are looking for highly motivated individuals with the desire to make major contributions to science and society, with appropriate skills and willingness to learn and explore new areas of science.
Who We Are:
Texas Biomedical Research Institute is one of the world's leading independent biomedical research institutions dedicated to advancing global human health through innovative biomedical research. Texas Biomed aims to unravel the mysteries of infectious diseases through innovative thinking, creative problem solving and cutting-edge technologies. The Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) provides broad services in primate research. We are one of seven National Primate Research Centers (NPRCs) with specialized technologies, capabilities and primate resources, many of which are unique to the SNPRC.
