Job Description:
Nissin Foods

Purpose To assist the Superintendent II or I, who is assigned to operate a line and in the absence of such Superintendent, he or she is to take a charge of the line.

Essential Functions- Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability to perform the following duties.

  • To ensure the safety and quality of the products that the line produces.
  • To ensure the safe operation of the line.
  • To ensure and enforce maintaining work areas clean and free of any debris or the overflow of product.
  • To produce the standard numbers of cases.
  • To attain the standard yield of the products.
  • To file all reports that is required by Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
  • To ensure that all process control reports are properly and timely filled, and they do not indicate any abnormal figures. If there are abnormal figures, take prompt actions to correct the conditions.
  • To work with Superintendent I and II in the most effective manors to pursuit and full fill the responsibilities.
  • To manage the manpower in the most effective manor to pursuit and fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Quality of the Products

  • Walk down the line as soon as you assume the command of the line and compare the actual products to the standards, standard poster.
  • Confirm the noodle thickness reported by the Menki operator.
  • Confirm the amount of Kansui per cwt that you are currently using.
  • Confirm the noodle counts of each row.
  • Confirm the cross weight of fried noodles by weighing groups of 10 consecutive noodles.
  • Confirm the fryer vat temperatures (1, 2, 3, 4&5) against the posted standard.
  • Confirm the set point of the heat exchangers.
  • Confirm the circulation pump pressure.
  • Confirm the main steam pressures before the motor valve.
  • Confirm the main, secondary steam pressures and steam pressures to the steamer.
  • Confirm the soup start up tests.
  • Confirm the date codes of cups, sleeves, packages and cases.
  • Confirm the case code of the pallet slip.
  • Confirm the pallet type, pallet patterns of the products

Safe Operation

  • Perform the safety checks and complete the reports.
  • No operators shall be placed on a job without proper trainings and without signing the daily checklists paperwork.
  • Enforce the safety procedures.
  • Complete safety report on workplace accidents immediately.
  • Conduct a safety rule education at least once a month and document it.

Standard Number of Cases

  • It is one of the essential duties of the Superintendent who is delegated to operate a line to attain the standard production cases. When there is no machine break down, the standard number of cases will be achieved without making any special effort. Then only time when the line will be stopped is when operators would make operational mistakes. In order to maintain the machineries on a line at the good working condition;
  • He or she must inspect machineries and if substandard conditions exist,
  • File work orders to the Maintenance Department.
  • If you would fail to file work orders, it means that you did not request the Maintenance to repair them.
  • If you do not know how to describe the area or parts to be repaired, take pictures of the problem area and attach them with the work orders.
  • The Superintendent must make sure that no substandard maintenance has been performed.
  • You are the person who determines if the repairs are substandard based on the losses and the additional labor required at the position.
  • If the same area or parts would often break, then the repairs are substandard.
  • Make sure that all temporary maintenance works do not turn into the permanent fixes until they break next time.
  • Mark a date when the temporary repairs are done by the Maintenance.
  • Report the temporary repairs, which are left for more than one calendar week.
  • At the end or the beginning of the shift, check the cleaning conditions of the line that you are supervising.
  • If the machineries are left dirty, parts, bushings, bearings, rod ends, chains and etc., will prematurely wear out.
  • If the machineries are dirty, schedule cleaning of the line with your manager.

Standard Yields

It is one of the essential duties of the Superintendent who is delegated to operate a line to attain the standard yield. There are only two factors which prevent us from attain the standard yield.

Line losses.

  1. Due to the operational errors.
  2. Due to the substandard machinery conditions.

Substandard weight control – how to monitor and control average weight, please refer to the instruction from your manager.

  1. Due to the lack of the average weight control
  2. Due to excessively high standard deviation, which forces us to set the average weight higher

Documentation

SOP (Standard Operation Procedures) and Process Control Procedures specify the reports, which must be completed. These documents are either legal documents which Nissin Foods must generate and keep for the regulatory agencies to inspect or process documents, which Nissin Foods utilize to record the condition of the process to ensure the quality of the products. Examples of such reports are HACCP reports (Metal Detector Check, Weight Checker Reports and Fryer Temperature Reports), SSOP reports, Allergen Reports, Documents, which are essential to the recall program and others.

Failure to ensure that these documents are properly filed out disqualifies you from the line Superintendent.

In order to ensure that those reports are properly filled, perform the following tasks during the production.

  • Check if all required documents are in the hand of machine operators who are designated to complete them.
  • Check if they are properly filled out, i.e., date, line, and name of the machine operator, shift and machine code if applicable.
  • Check at least once (preferable on every 2 hours) if they are filling the reports and place your initial whenever you checked them.

Utilization of your immediate subordinates

  • Make sure that the Blending/Relief Operator is relieving machine operators or coordinating the relief of the machine operators.
  • Make sure that a Superintendent III is not relieving general assemblers. Superintendent III is assisting the Superintendent II to manage the line.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees on the production line. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college of technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
