Dental Assistant - Pediatric Residency at University of Oklahoma

Job Description:

Come join the staff at OU HSC and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities. This position performs chair-side dental assisting in a dental pediatric resident clinic.


Duties:



  • Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment.

  • Document patient care.

  • Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).

  • May provide administrative assistance.

  • Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to placement of bases and liners and placement and removal of rubber dams, insertion, finishing, and removal of temporary restorations.

  • Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry.

  • Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.

  • Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist.

  • Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.

  • Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.

  • Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.

  • Takes impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (models of teeth).

  • May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.

  • Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED AND:



  • 6 months as a Dental Assistant


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept completion of a dental assisting program, possession of a valid Oklahoma Dental Assistant Permit, AND possession of the Radiation Safety and Protection certification from the OK Board of Dentistry in lieu of required experience


Skills:



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow outlined policies and guidelines.

  • Ability to provide patient care and customer service.

  • Ability to multitask

  • Must have a professional and positive attitude.


Certifications:



  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR) 


Working Conditions:




  • Physical: Standing for long periods of time.  Manual dexterity.  Speaking, walking, stooping, and bending.


  • Environmental: Clinic Environment.
