Salary/Position Classification


  • $75,000+ Depending on experience, annual, Exempt

  • 40 hours per week

  • 100% Remote Work Availability: No

  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): Yes, up to 20% of the time.


Purpose of Position

The position exists to support RIAS research across the array of topics that are organized within the five focus areas. Given the activity in RIAS, support is needed in the following areas:



  • RIAS project management

  • RIAS research execution

  • RIAS research leadership

  • RIAS management

  • RIAS business development and outreach


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Project Management

    • Manage projects from inception to conclusion, including but not limited to:

      • Plan, design/shape, and implement projects (project proposals, statements of work, budgets, timelines, etc.),

      • Track and facilitate progress in RIAS projects, including goals, objectives, budgets, timeline, and deliverables

      • Prepare materials for submission to funding agencies, including any reporting requirements

      • Lead compilation of RIAS project final reports

      • Prepare project specific presentation materials for conferences and meetings

      • Perform cost, schedule, performance project management duties for RIAS projects



    • Work with RIAS Project Managers to update the RIAS project and event management tool on a regular basis. 3

    • Coordinate and lead RIAS project meetings.

    • Lead compilation of RIAS project final reports.

    • Support RIAS leadership meetings.



  • Research Execution

    • Support achievement of milestones by performing research when appropriate according to alignment of capabilities and research-provided funding.

    • Present research (conferences, meetings, etc.) when appropriate (e.g., project involvement enables competent presentation of effort).

    • Lead research efforts, including execution of flights, collection of data, and provision of research results.

    • Develop and implement appropriate research methodologies, methods, evaluation strategies, and research tools.

    • Design, manage and deliver multiple R&D projects across learning, skills and employment.



  • Research Leadership

    • Lead proposal development, including coordinating large proposal teams and ensuring completion of required documents.

    • Present research.

    • Leading projects, including being POC for sponsor.

    • In collaboration with senior R&D staff, support the development and training of the wider team

    • Communicate lessons learned across RIAS employees

    • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • RIAS Management

    • Assist with identification and analysis of current employee research efforts, track efforts, and plan future research efforts on all projects.

    • Forecasts personnel resources on projects and leads hiring process for some positions.

    • Management of research activities to ensure completion of RIAS tasks.

    • Supervision of personnel to ensure completion of RIAS tasks.

      • Manage RIAS Project Managers

      • Manage and mentor RIAS Research Scientists



    • Implementation and management of RIAS project management system.



  • Business Development and Outreach

    • Support RIAS business development by attending meetings and supporting proposal development.

    • Support RIAS outreach, including leading, promoting, and overseeing autonomy competitions (such as CDRA, MultiGP STEM alliance events, etc.).




Required Competencies

  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 3 year of project management experience.

  • 3 year of experience with managing resources.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Either education or experience with use/operation of UAS.

  • Experience with budget development and management.

  • Technical document writing and proofing experience.

  • Experience with research execution.

  • Export control compliance.
    This position requires compliance with U.S. government export control laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a related field (e.g., science & technology)

  • 5 years of project management experience.

  • 3 years of supervisory experience.

  • Experience leading research (proposal development, project execution, etc.).
