Job Description:
In accordance with Brown's mission to facilitate the creation of knowledge through research, the Assistant Director, Undergraduate Research Programs supports undergraduate student engagement in research and scholarly activities. They will work broadly with the undergraduate student body as a member of the Undergraduate Research team and intensively with the cohort-based Presidential Scholars Program (PSP) to create a community where students thrive both academically and socially. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of the College for Co-Curriculum with a dotted line to the faculty director of the Presidential Scholars Program, the Assistant Director will work closely with program leadership, staff, and student scholars to ensure the success of the Presidential Scholars program and its student cohort. The position supports the program's pursuit of several major advising- and operations-related priorities, including providing student-centered perspectives on programmatic efforts and day-to-day programmatic oversight. Responsibilities include creating and implementing advising and educational programming for current Presidential Scholars throughout the academic year, as well as support for admissions and recruitment efforts for the development of future scholar cohorts. As part of the Undergraduate Research team, the Assistant Director will support programming, advising, and other initiatives that facilitate student learning and self-exploration as well as faculty collaborations and mentorship. Finally, the Assistant Director will contribute to the administrative life of the College, also serving as an exploratory academic advisor in the context of Brown's Open Curriculum.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in college or university-level academic settings, such as academic advising, career counseling, or teaching is preferred.
Job Competencies
Student-centered approach to advising and mentoring, with particular attention to supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds.
Successful experience in academic program administration, including planning and development, implementation, and assessment.
Initiative and ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team.
Proven verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to function effectively in a complex environment.
Proven analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to use sound judgment.
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities.
Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community. Demonstrated ability to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in executing job responsibilities.
Ability to work evening and weekend events/programs, including some holidays.
Experience with the practice, administration, and/or mentorship of undergraduate research is preferred.
Additional Information
The position requires occasional evening and weekend work for critical program, College, and University events, including a weekly evening seminar series during the fall semester.
