The Department of History & American Indian Studies at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of American Indian Studies to begin in August 2025. We seek a colleague who will continue our department's commitments to teaching excellence, furthering scholarship on Indigenous peoples of the Northern Great Plains, and strengthen and build new strategic partnerships with tribal communities in our region.
The successful candidate will teach five three-credit courses in American Indian Studies (AIS) and a one-credit Humanities Seminar per year. The offerings will be a combination of in-person on-campus and asynchronous online courses. Desirable teaching areas include introductory AIS courses; an interdisciplinary Humanities Seminar; tribal histories of the Northern Great Plains; and Preserving Tribal Heritage. The successful candidate also will maintain an active research agenda and participate in shared faculty governance and service.
