Job Description:

Working Title:

Adjunct Faculty - Luter School of Business - Data Analytics / Supply Chain / Operations Management

Appointment Type:

Adjunct

Purpose of Position:

The CNU Luter School of Business is accepting applications from prospective adjunct faculty members to teach individual courses, as needed, in the following areas:

  • Business Statistics - introduces students to the strategic value of data and statistical analysis within the context of real-world business problems. Students also learn the value of statistical information in making informed judgments and business process improvements. Specifically, the course will concentrate on the application of statistics to understanding and improving business processes through the use of practical knowledge-based tools, regression models, process experimentation, and statistical inference. The student will also become familiar with different types of data collection and measurements. Requires knowledge and use of R Studio and Excel.

  • Data Analytics - the fundamental principles and techniques of data science and data mining, and we will examine real-world examples and cases to place data-mining techniques in context, to develop data-analytic thinking, and to illustrate that proper application is as much an art as it is a science. Requires knowledge and use of R Studio and Excel.

  • Operations Management - Understanding the role of the operations function and its impact on the competitiveness of the firm is an important part of any manager's training. Operational issues include designing, acquiring, operating, and maintaining facilities and processes; purchasing raw materials; controlling and maintaining inventories; and providing the proper labor needed to produce a good or service so that customers' expectations are met. This course in operations management is intended to be a survey of operating practices and models in both manufacturing and service-oriented firms.

  • Supply Chain Management - deals with the management of the direct value adding activities across all the firms that contribute to the creation, manufacturing and delivery of a product. The objective of this course is to study and integrate the perspectives of different firms and different professional disciplines to develop a broader understanding of how to improve the performance of the entire supply chain. Specific issues to be discussed include: supply chain design, optimization of logistic networks, inventory management, sourcing and supplier contracting, information technology, product design, and globalization. Management Science - knowledge or experience with the techniques and applications in this field. Requires knowledge and use of Excel or related software to solve course related problems.

  • Management Science - This course focuses on management science techniques used for problem solving and decision-making in all areas of management. These techniques involve the application of mathematical modeling and an analytical approach to business problems. Students learn to determine which methods are appropriate for solving various types of problems. The primary goal of the course is to help students become more skilled builders and consumers of models. Another important goal is to encourage a more disciplined thinking process when approaching management situations. Management science and operations research tools such as linear programming, sensitivity analysis, and decision trees are covered.

  • Software Applications for Business - The Software Applications for Business class covers advanced skills training in Microsoft Excel as well as selected topics in Microsoft Access. Candidates should be able to teach principles of database design and SQL queries. Preference will be given to individuals with Microsoft Office Specialist certification.

  • Advanced Data Analytics - This course expands on topics covered in the introductory data analytics class. Much data used by organizations comes from structured storage solutions such as corporate databases. Students learn database data extraction using Structured Query Language (SQL) as well as additional important aspects of working with data such as data cleaning and data wrangling. The course will also examine the most prevalent issues confronting data quality and explore the common approaches and tools for resolving them. Advanced data analytics methods, such as advanced decision trees, naive Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, and neural networks will also be explored. Data mining and visualization tasks will be performed using open source tools.

Along with demonstrated ability for excellent teaching, candidates must hold an earned graduate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant discipline, with 18 completed semester hours of related graduate course work or an MBA and related professional experience. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
