Primary Responsibilities:


Department: Title III STEM LTS



Primary ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Job: Works with the Rio Grande Joint Venture to develop databases related to stream incision in the Big Bend and Davis Mountains area of Far West Texas. This position will work with RGJV hydrologists and aquatic ecologists to develop maps of terraces and fluvial deposits in streams within Presidio, Brewster, and Jeff Davis Mountains. In additions, this position will assist in the development of regional metrics related to stream morphology.



Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Prepare and maintain, maps and cross sections of area streams.

  • Assist with collection of field data using surveying techniques (laser levels, GPS, and Real Time Kinematic survey systems.

  • Help to organize related data.

  • Assist hydrologists and aquatic ecologists in developing regional metrics.

  • Activities will be both office and field based (approximately 60/40%). Field based activities will require hiking through rough country along area streams.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.





Supervision:
Direct supervision from Mentor Jeff Bennett with the Rio Grande Joint Venture for day to day instruction. Mr. Bennett will also act as the Mentor within the Lobo Explore STEM Internship Program.

STEM Internship Program:This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTS) SRSU STEM Internship Program. Along with the normal job duties, the student will learn from the faculty supervisor about the STEM workforce, different career pathways, research, and more. Students will gain knowledge, experience, and professional connections in the STEM field. Students will have access to professional development tools throughout the internship program (resume building, interview practices, etc.).
