Who are we looking for? Our Natural Resources & Impact Assessment Group provides environmental impact documentation and permitting services for a broad range of interesting clients and projects, working across multiple geographies and market sectors, including rail and transit.



GHD is looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Project Manager to work in Southern California. The ideal candidate should have significant experience overseeing the environmental review process for capital improvements within active commuter rail and light rail corridors. Our Southern California office affiliations include Irvine, Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Luis Obispo, and San Diego. Work location will comprise both in-office and remote (work from home) arrangements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare environmental impact analyses for rail and transit capital improvement and state of good repair projects in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Prepare environmental technical studies and reports.
  • Prepare/coordinate regulatory permitting applications with federal, state, regional, and local agencies.
  • Contribute to proposal pursuits with new and existing clients throughout California. Maintain positive company relations with existing clients and develop new clients. Manage and prepare proposals for new task orders under existing on-call contracts, including the development of related marketing materials and fee proposals for environmental tasks.
  • Provide senior technical expertise regarding natural resources and impact assessments; be generally recognized as a leader or emerging leader in the rail and transit market.
  • As project manager, supervise CEQA and NEPA processes, and manage environmental assessments and specialized studies for medium-to-large, complex, or controversial projects.
  • Conduct research and coordinate with public and private clients, internal and external engineering partners, technical subconsultants, and regulatory/resource agencies.
  • Perform billable work on projects per established goals and manage project financials successfully for environmental tasks. Responsible for project excellence, including communication, client management, and fiscal management.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • May perform other project or non-project related tasks as appropriate.

Skills and Experience:

  • Technical expertise in a CEQA or NEPA discipline such as traffic and transportation, environmental justice, socioeconomics, air quality, or cultural resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic, team player, and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Commitment to producing quality work within established budgets and schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other MS Office Suite software, and internet research applications.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or higher, in environmental sciences, engineering, urban planning, geography, public administration, or a closely related field. Professional certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience providing most or all essential duties and responsibilities noted above, with emphases on project management and business development. Project experience involving environmental documents for federal, State, and regional agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, NMFS, CDFW, Caltrans, Coastal Commission, and RWQCB) is attractive.

Salary Range: $126,000- $184,000 based on experience
