This position is based in the Charlestown Navy Yard
Works under general supervision, but follows standard MGH policies and procedures, performs both routine and complex tasks related to the repairs, installation, modifications, inspection and testing of the Danvers Facility's electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and appliances. To ensure that all electrical work and equipment meets all legal codes and hospital standards. Knowledge of UPS, generator backup systems required. Responds to problems in all trades as needed.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to electrical trouble calls throughout the Danvers campus; inspecting and repairing a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment, including lighting, power distribution, smoke and fire detectors, security alarm, and automation systems.
Fabricates, installs and modifies electrical systems especially during renovation/construction. These included power for lighting, heating, air conditioning control systems, and wiring for paging and intercom systems using wiring diagrams, blueprints and job specifications.
3) Examines, tests, installs and repairs distribution panels, controls, lighting fixtures, also specialized equipment such as commercial and laboratory equipment in order to locate malfunctions such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires and loose connection.
Repairs major and minor electrical malfunctions of campus, commercial and laboratory equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on all equipment, including HVAC, plumbing and electric. May be subject to work outside of his/her trades i.e.; painting, light carpentry, floor work and any other construction duties to maintain the facilities functionality and appearance.
Complete records of work performed such as time and materials used, and equipment tested or repaired.
Responds to problems of all trades such as carpentry, locksmith, plumbing, and HVAC as needed.
Responsible for snow removal as needed.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Must be available for off-hour page coverage on a rotating basis.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
1) Completion of high school or equivalent GED.
2) Knowledge of motor and motor controllers and drives.
3) Knowledge of blue print reading and electricity.
4) Possession of a valid Massachusetts Journeyman electrician's license with a min. of 5 years working experience in the trade.
5) Knowledge of required electrical codes.
Basic carpentry and Plumbing knowledge.
Knowledge of building automation systems with strong computer skills.
Knowledge of HVAC systems
Must provide and maintain a valid driver's license
