Job Summary

The Herbert Wertheim College Of Medicine is currently seeking a Student Tutor to join their team of professionals.


Duties:



  • Provides peer supplemental instruction in various modalities such as: 1- to-1 and small groups

  • Discusses learning, test-taking and study strategies while assisting with course work assignments and questions

  • Completes session documentation at the completion of each supplemental instruction session

  • Assists students with composing study guides

  • Facilitates review sessions during midterm and finals exams and/or as needed based on student needs

  • Maintains up to date documentation and student progress for all individual supplemental instruction sessions assigned

  • Maintains familiarity with all existing ACES resources and refers students to resources as appropriate

  • Communicates regularly with supplemental Peer Instruction Program Manager, Assistant Dean of Student Success and Well- Being, and AEC's, on the progress of students assigned

  • Follows and upholds FIU academic honesty policies and procedures, FERPA policies and ACES procedures


Minimum Qualifications

  • Successfully completed first year of medical school studies and have earned average and above average grades in the following courses: GMC, Anatomy, Physiology, and/or Foundations 1 and 2, and Organ Systems 1 and 2.

  • At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment.

  • Requires a letter of recommendation from one prior supervisor.

  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days. Ability to work in a team setting.

  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites.

  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

  • Knowledge of PC operations and specialized software programs, such as PantherSoft and Salesforce. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing.

  • Possess a high sense of responsibility and customer service skills. Ability to solve problems independently.

  • Organizational and time-management skills.

Desired Qualifications

Previous tutoring or teaching experience.
Knowledge of active learning and study strategies, test-taking strategies, and time-management techniques.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.

  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
