Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant/Associate Director of Institutional Research (IR) will support and collaborate with the Director to lead the institution’s data collection, analysis, and reporting efforts. This role assists in federal, state, and external reporting, survey administration, strategic initiatives, and internal data requests, fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making across campus. The position plays a key role in advancing institutional effectiveness, compliance, and student success through data governance and collaboration.

The allocation of responsibilities includes:
  • Support Institutional Data Collection and Reporting – 30%
    Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting institutional data for internal and external audiences, including IPEDS and other compliance-related submissions. Contribute to the development of reports like the Board of Trustees Dashboards and the Vital Signs report. Support the internal data request process for campus stakeholders.
  • Survey Administration and Data Analysis – 20%
    Collaborate on survey design, administration, and analysis. Review and approve surveys administered in Qualtrics by faculty and students. Assist in the preparation and presenting reports, including executive summaries and detailed findings, to various stakeholders.
  • Strategic Collaboration and Data Governance – 20%
    Support and assist campus departments in enhancing data governance practices and ensuring data integrity. Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies that advance student success, retention, and DEI initiatives. Facilitate partnerships across campus to promote the use of data analytics in decision-making and planning.
  • Provide Data Consultation and Support – 10%
    Serve as a resource for faculty, staff, and students, offering guidance on data presentation, survey design, and research methodology. Support best practices in data visualization and interpretation. Collaborate on the development of custom reports and surveys tailored to departmental or institutional needs.
  • Support Accreditation and Assessment – 10%
    Assist in ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements (e.g., NECHE) by supporting the self-study process.
  • Participation in Committees and Website Management – 10%
    Attend relevant meetings and participate in committees such as the Curriculum and Retention Committees. Manage and maintain the IR website by keeping current analyses and reports accessible and up-to-date.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience in survey design and data analysis, a collaborative approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to enhancing institutional effectiveness through data-driven insights.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Higher Education, Social Sciences, or a related area).
Experience:
  • 3–5 years of experience in institutional research, data analysis, or a related field.
  • Experience with IPEDS reporting and other external reporting requirements.
  • Experience in survey design, administration, and analysis.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Excel, Tableau, Power BI) and survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for assisting in preparing reports and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across campus.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods relevant to higher education contexts.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Higher Education, or related areas).
  • Experience in higher education and familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Slate).
  • Experience with data governance and ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., SQL, R, Python) for advanced data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing dashboards and visualizations for senior leadership or broader campus communities.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience.
