Position Summary This position supports the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) https://www.pdx.edu/japanese-studies/

The purpose of this position is to support/maintain/develop this program, including increasing community awareness and support, develop alumni/donor relations, increase K-20 outreach, and provide support to students and faculty.

The CJS is under the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Its mission is to bring the languages, literature, thoughts, and culture of Japan to students and the community through a variety of curricular and outreach programs.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.

Note:
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a range of expressions of gender identity as well as varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Experience with basic word processing, general office software, and experience using multi-user databases.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills demonstrated by ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Japanese.

Work Days/Hours Monday - Friday, 20 hours per week (hours to be determined)
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $17.59 and $19.68. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.

Employees working less than .75 FTE share the premium cost prorated based on hours worked, and accrue vacation, sick, and personal leave on a prorated basis.
