The Crisis Care Coordinator will play a vital role in facilitating the delivery of crisis intervention services to children and youth in school settings throughout Fresno County. This position requires strong coordination skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to ensuring the well-being of youth in crisis.

The School Mobile Access Response Team (SMART) is dedicated to providing immediate crisis intervention, de-escalation, and triage services to children and youth, 21 years of age and under, within the Fresno metro and rural areas. Our team operates in collaboration with K-12 schools, offering timely support to address mental health crises effectively and compassionately.

How will I contribute
Coordinate the deployment of crisis response teams to K-12 school campuses in response to requests for immediate crisis intervention and support. Serve as the primary point of contact for school staff, Student Resource Officers, and community partners seeking crisis intervention services from the SMART team. Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and other stakeholders to assess the needs of students in crisis and develop appropriate response plans. Maintain a centralized system for tracking and documenting crisis response activities, including the scheduling of team deployments, follow-up services, and outcomes. Provide ongoing support and guidance to crisis response team members, ensuring adherence to program protocols and best practices in crisis intervention. Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for school staff and community partners on crisis response protocols and procedures. Participate in regular meetings and debriefings with the SMART team to review crisis incidents, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed. Act as a liaison between schools, mental health agencies, and other community resources to facilitate access to additional support services for students and their families. May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff may be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible. SMART operation hours are 8:00am 5:00pm, Monday -Friday, throughout the year including school breaks and vacation. May be required to assist MCRT and CIT programs when school is not in session. May answer, and triage calls for service, throughout the dispatch system.

What I bring
Associate Degree and 2 years experience working with the un-housed, mental health and substance use, or related populations. Advanced experience may be substituted in lieu of college degree on a year-for-year basis. Class C Driving License Knowledge of how to work effectively in harm reduction environment. Knowledge of cultural and socio-economic factors that inform service provision to persons with mental health and cooccurring disorders, and community resources that will be utilized by persons served. Effective data entry skills using various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data. Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with person served family members and friends as well as other professionals linked to ongoing care and ability to maintain good case records, including documentation and safety planning. Critical thinking and problem solving with the Mobile Crisis Response Team to determine the best care plan for the person served. Ability to react appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate as part of a team. Action oriented. Strong problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask and prioritize multiple tasks. Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks, while remaining flexible and reliable. Compassionate and empathetic Bachelors degree preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
