JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

This role will provide the leadership for the overall Flow Assurance Organization within Tallgrass. This organization is primarily comprised of the Surface Flow Assurance and Sub-Surface Flow Assurance teams.

The Sub-Surface team is accountable for the operation, maintenance, compliance and enhancement of Tallgrass' Natural Gas storage fields and CCS facilities. These teams are comprised of reservoir engineering, production engineering, sub-surface modeling and compliance all of which primarily focus on the wells from a deliverability and integrity standpoint.

The Surface Flow Assurance team is accountable for the modeling/systems engineering, capacity management and leak detection of the various pipelines and commodities (Nat. Gas, Crude Oil, CO2, Gathering). In addition, this team will evaluate the phases (gas, liquids, multi-phase) in both steady-state and transient conditions.

These teams work closely with numerous departments within Tallgrass such as Commercial/Business Development, Operations, OCC, Projects and Engineering to meet the business needs (current and future) and to ensure safe and efficient operations of the Tallgrass assets. In addition, they will also perform analysis on or during various phases of projects such as conceptual design, operating requirements, detailed design, start-up, post start-up optimization, maintenance outages and ongoing troubleshooting.Minimum requirements:


  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering
  • A minimum of ten (10) years direct work experience in managing Flow Assurance teams


  • Experience/Specific Knowledge:
  • Experience with surface and sub-surface flow assurance
  • Experience with muti-phase systems
  • Experience with engineering, operating and maintaining pipelines and associated facilities
  • Experience with engineering, operating and maintaining various types of product pipelines (gas, liquids, multi-phase)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of diverse and progressive responsibility of pipeline/terminal O&M experience, including strong technical, operational and maintenance background.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience with direct people management.
  • Strong background in pipeline maintenance including pump stations, compressor stations and mainline valves.
  • Familiar with PHMSA, EPA, OSHA and other applicable pipeline safety and environmental regulations.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in Maximo/CMMS, OSI PI and MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook for the purposes of word processing, spreadsheet applications, and information retrieval.
  • Intermediate proficiency with various hydraulic (surface/subsurface) and thermodynamic models (NextGen, DNV Synergi & SPS, Synergi Gas, Emerson LDS, Aerial Compression, ACI Compression, OLGA, Eclipse, WellView, Fekete and others)


  • Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions:

  • Infrequent overnight and weekend travel may be required.

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of diverse and progressively responsibility of pipeline/terminal experience, including strong technical and operational background.
  • Experience with implementation of preventative and predictive based maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with reliability centered maintenance programs.
  • Experience with minor pipeline construction, repair, and inspection activities.
  • Experience with gas and liquid measurement programs and practices.
  • Experience with field training and OQ programs.
  • Experience with ROW and Damage Prevention programs.
  • Experience with equipment analysis programs and analytical/diagnostic tools.

Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook for the purposes of word processing, spreadsheet applications, and information retrieval.

  • Providing Flow Assurance support and consultation for system operation and maintenance
  • Performing ongoing reviews of the design, specifications, and technology.

  • Flow assurance support to Regulatory and Integrity Management team for DOT/PHMSA audits
  • Provide support to Finance and Marketing groups for Capacity analysis, Electric Power calculation, and contract negotiation.
  • Provide support to Control room, operation, and SCADA teams.
  • Interfaces with other engineers/ managers and disciplines to review and verify designs.
  • Directly work with management team to discuss the technical challenges involved with all business development activities.
  • Provided continuous and clear updates for technical works which helps management to set or calibrate the technical objectives.
  • Designing, introducing, and managing a technical training program that supports and enhances business requirements.
  • Supporting the Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Identifying the SMEs within the company and using their knowledge to improve operation and design performance.
  • Work closely with Project Management team to develop strategic plans to execute projects safely and efficiently while also keeping long term operability, maintainability and reliability goals front and center.
  • Drive proactive cross-functional alignment and collaboration internally with key stakeholders in Operations, Engineering, Commercial and Project Teams to optimize the delivery of services across all assets.
  • Plan and manage the organization including headcount requirements, recruitment strategies, and organizational development.
  • Proven ability to influence across organizations without direct hierarchical ownership of teams.
  • Development and implementation of measurement and reporting KPIs.
  • Coordination of the planning and scheduling of major maintenance activities to mitigate revenue loss and service interruptions.
  • Coordinate the development and application of emergency procedures. Actively participate and provide leadership in crisis management conditions.
