This position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor in coordination of the daily responsibilities of the department by ensuring the Supervisor's instructions are communicated to the team members and carried out timely and correctly. This position will also monitor all equipment to insure it is working properly and notify the supervisor of any needed maintenance while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.
Summary
The Lead assists the Burrito, Flour or Corn Production Supervisor with the manufacturing, handling and packaging of quality products in accordance with customer's written specifications. Must be able to complete lockout/tag out training before training or operating line and assist in showing fellow team members the location for lock out/tag out for individual pieces of equipment.
Ability to operate all equipment/machines for the assigned department. Prepares and assists operators for production start-up or shut down of equipment. Prepares and assists on set up/clean up of department for production start-up and/or shut down. Assists, trains, encourages and directs Operators on how to adjust and operate equipment and keep legible accurate records as required. Assists the Supervisor in completing essential paperwork. Stops machine to make required adjustments following lockout-tagout policy. Maintains good manufacturing practices and personal hygiene. Keeps department clean and neat. Notifies Supervisor and QC of contamination. Ensure product specifications are met in accordance with customers written specifications. Must adhere to all safety policies and operate equipment in a safe manner. Responsible for monitoring and reporting any wear and tear on equipment and notifies the Supervisor and Maintenance of equipment malfunction, breakdown, and safety hazards. Ensures ample packout supplies are available for line workers. Responsible for data entry into the Plant View system. Coordinates with the Supervisor which products are scheduled to be run on each line. Relieves Operators when necessary; operating machine and mixer. Helps train new team members on job functions. Ensures break schedule and job rotation of packers.
MAY ATTEND DAILY END OF SHIFT MEETINGS FOR THEIR SHIFT WHEN GOALS ARE NOT MET.
Responsible for following company policies/procedures written or verbal. Must be able to work competently and efficiently with minimal supervision. Work as a team member toward task accomplishments. Performs all other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position
Must have 6 months of machine operator experience

Must be able to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires flexibility of wrists and hands. Walking, bending, standing and some lifting required. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. Must be able to move heavy objects (up to 250 lbs.) with mechanical device. Must be able to perform the Machine Operators Training Checklist and the Mixer Operators Training Checklist (for applicable line/department) job tasks by the end of the 10-working day trial period. Must be able to perform the Lead Training Checklist (in applicable department) job tasks by the end of the 10-working day trial period. Must be able to communicate with mechanics, quality control and supervisors on a regular basis. Responsible for taking on multiple projects at any time with a very short deadline to meet.
Must be able to use a calculator to figure production efficiencies, scrap yields, SPC specifications, proper blend ingredient weights, etc. Must be able to read the Operator's Logs (Machine Op. and Mixer Op.), press and mixer related SOP's, and various Production SOP's for the assigned department. Must be able to write production recordings in the Operator's Logs (Machine Op. and Mixer Op.) and fill out production documentation completely and accurately. Must be able to use and read scales and thermometers.
