LOCATION:Artisan and Business Center - 1417 Cedar Street, Green Bay, WI 54302



HOURS: Hours vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes. Current need starting in Fall (August) 2023



SALARY: $25 per class hour contracted





GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS



  • Training or education and two years' experience in the making, selling, marketing, etc. of the craft/art product or equivalent combination of education and related ceramic wares experience required.

  • Applicants should be proficient at pottery on the wheel and handbuilding functional work, as well as sculptural ceramics




GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Responsible for managing the instruction process, associated curriculum review and development, and student advising within the area of instruction.

  • Responsible for instructing artisan classes aimed at both teaching individuals to learn a new artisan skill or supplement their income.



  • Areas of instruction to be covered could include (but not limited to):


    • Ceramics Intermediate - Wheelthrowing: health hazards in a ceramic studio, centering 3, 5, and 7 lbs of clay on the wheel, ceramic firing process, advanced glazing techniques, advanced surface treatment (sodium silicate / slip trailing), ability to throw consistent shapes on the potter's wheel, ability to throw lidded vessels, ability to throw a cylinder equal to or greater than 8 in high,


    • Raku Firing: producing items for raku firing, safe raku firing practices, development of raku glazes, finishing and surface techniques including: horsehair, feather, pit, naked, feather, and salt/soda firing


    • Ceramics Independent Projects: overseeing, assisting, answering questions, problem solving, and offering advice on personal projects using a range of techniques and skills in handbuilding and wheel throwing. Must be comfortable challenging students to try new things and have a wide variety of ceramics knowledge





  • Must be willing to commit to all required course contact hours, for each class assignment as scheduled.

  • Responsible for maintaining curriculum rigor in alignment with state requirements.

  • Required to manage the instructional process, to include but not limited to: course preparation, student attendance records, student assessment, grading, and must be accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time (to include electronic communications as well as in-person meetings).

  • Work effectively with faculty and Artisan Center staff members.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the instructor will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment such as telephone, personal computer, printers/copiers, videos, overhead projects, and general tools of the trade. The employee will be constantly required to sit, talk, hear, and type/write. The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers), and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally bend or squat and lift and/or push up to 10 pounds of general office items. Some instructor positions may be exposed to outdoors, fumes, noises, extreme temperatures, confined spaces and heights. Some instructor positions require driving a vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, sharpness of vision, and field of vision.


This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.
