Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5 credit class

Supervisor: Dean of Libraries, Tutoring, and College Success
Olympic College Libraries is recruiting for adjunct faculty to work closely with discipline faculty, other library faculty, and staff to ensure that reference, instructional, and collection development activities are coordinated and focused on student learning outcomes. Library adjunct faculty work collaboratively and are responsible for teaching information skills to students, promoting information literacy instruction, and creating relevant library collections and services for the college community.
Position will report to the Dean of Libraries, Tutoring, and College Success. Hours vary depending on department need. Schedule will include some evening and/or weekend hours.Essential Functions


  • Provide research assistance and individual instruction in the use of the library's services and resources via multiple modes, including in-person, telephone, e-mail, and virtual chat.

  • Develop and teach general and discipline specific orientations and workshops both face-to-face and online.

  • Work with teaching faculty to integrate information literacy into curriculum and programs.

  • Develop library research and subject guides and other instructional materials.

  • In consultation with teaching faculty, develop, maintain, and promote the library's collections in a variety of formats to support the curriculum.

  • Participate in discipline and/or subject and/or division planning.
  • Qualifications


    Minimum qualifications


  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS, MSLS, MLIS) from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience delivering reference assistance and instruction in an academic setting.

  • Experience in a community college setting.

  • Demonstrated ability in using and understanding technology including online library systems (ALMA, Primo, etc.) and bibliographic or full-text databases (ProQuest, EBSCOhost, etc.)

  • Ability to use a variety of software applications.

    Terms of Employment

    This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.
    Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur.     Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire, Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement. The list of benefits that may be available after is as follows.
