The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Ophthalmology Department, Shank lab is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Technician IV to conduct a variety research projects.
The individual should have experience with sterile technique and work with risk group 2 bacterial organisms. A Master’s degree in biology, or a similarly related scientific field, as well as prior experience research is requested. The candidate will participate in laboratory management, helping to oversee college student research projects, data recording and analysis, and manuscript/grant preparation. All applicants should be highly motivated and able to work independently, have excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, and adhere to the highest standards of animal care and research integrity.
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Duties will include antibiotic susceptibility testing and other microbiological assays, molecular genetics (cloning, electrophoretic mobility shift assays), Western Blotting, confocal microscopy, and participation in animal studies using mice and rabbits.
Must be able to sit or stand, walk, bend, and stoop for long periods of time, as well as grasp small objects using fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, and lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 20 pounds. Good vision for microbiological tasks is required.
