Job Summary
The Investigator Support Services Specialist I is responsible for sample management activities for samples arriving at the LabConnect Johnson City facility. The ISS Specialist I will perform tasks in support of receiving specimens for storage, onsite processing, or shipment to partner laboratories or other facilities. The ISS Specialist I will work closely with the Sample Processing Services (SPS) and Biorepository Services (BRS) for sample handling. The ISS Specialist I will also communicate with other departments such as Project Management, SampleGISTICS, and Clinical Trial Materials (CTM) to ensure the timely and accurate handling of samples.
Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities
Required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, be highly adaptive and customer service experience is required. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory work experience preferred.
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations or situations where only limited standardization exists.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including MS Word and Excel.
Certificates and Licenses
Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (ASCP) preferred.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to dry ice and cold. Must handle biological samples.
