The Preserve is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare subsidiary of the Volunteers of America parent organization. Located on the corner of Plantation Road and 6 Mile Cypress Parkway in beautiful Fort Myers, we provide Assisted Living, Memory Support, and Skilled Care Services (Post-Acute Rehabilitation & Long-term care).

    Pay: $15 - $15.50/hour based on experience!



    Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, days will vary, occasional weekends!


    The Activities Assistant coordinate social, recreational, purposeful and spiritual activities to residents, whose needs include psychological, physical, and cognitive challenges



    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school graduate or equivalent education is preferred. Preference given to persons who have completed courses in therapeutic recreation.

    • Minimum one year experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

    • If operating company vehicle you must be twenty-one (21) years of age and meet the MVR organization standards.

    • Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions; to prepare written reports and documentation.

    • Ability to work with residents of varying levels of responsiveness.

    • Motor coordination and manual dexterity required in working with craft projects and other resident activities.

    • Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during evenings and weekends for planned activities events.

    • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Perform defined work routines and daily assignments, using various department supplies and equipment, as assigned by the Therapeutic Recreation Director.

    • Assist with social activities and recreational programs that provide spiritual, physical, social, and intellectual challenges for facility residents.

    • Research and design resident activity programs for Director's approval; implement approved programs that maintain viable interest and expand resident participation.

    • Initiate various assigned individual and/or group activities; provide materials, instructions and supervision during activities; record attendance.

    • Evaluate residents' reactions during activities, document attendance, and report unusual observations to nurse in charge.

    • Assist with planning and scheduling trips and outside activities; arrange for transportation and resident supervision.

    • Assist with planning and participation of residents in religious activities as assigned by the Therapeutic Recreation Director.

    • Plan and provide for resident intellectual/educational development through literature, lectures, movies, cultural events, etc. as assigned by the Therapeutic Recreation Director.

    • Implement any activity schedule changes; notify appropriate departments.

    • Provide craft materials or activities for bedfast residents as assigned.

    • Assist with activities programming in cooperation with other departments concerning individual resident needs. Assist with posting of activity schedules and informing appropriate departments.

    • Assist with planning and programming for holiday and special events.

    • Assist Therapeutic Recreation Director in coordinating Residents' Council meetings.

    • Assist with coordinating printing and supply needs for activities and special events.

    • Perform assigned cleaning responsibilities of equipment and work areas.

    • Initiate reporting and documentation procedures as assigned.

    • Meet with new residents and develop and document individual resident activity plan by determining interests, abilities and needs.

    • Attend initial care and quarterly review conferences; participate in problem identification, resident goal setting and approach planning.

    • Record census and room changes on resident list and kardex; notify Therapeutic Recreation Director.

    • Document monthly and quarterly resident progress notes.

    • Submit supply/equipment requisitions and all reimbursable activity expenses to the Therapeutic Recreation Director for approval, following defined departmental policy.

    • Assist with the development, printing and distribution of resident newsletter.

    • Write monthly articles regarding past and future activities.

    • Assist in obtaining articles from residents, staff and other resources.

    • Assist in the distribution; maintain current mailing list.

    • Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and facility's rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

    • Attend scheduled department staff meetings.

    • Attends required in-services and completes assign online modules.

    • Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties.

    • Follow defined Infection Control procedures.

    • Understand facility's fire and disaster plans; follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.

    • Perform other department duties or special assignments as directed by the Therapeutic Recreation Director.
