Job Description:

Hendrickson is searching for an Engineer to join their Elastomers product development engineering team in Kendallville, IN.


This individual will be responsible for developing elastomeric and other suspension components; creating and revising CAD drawings; generating sub-system suspension layouts; producing tolerance studies; and supporting Hendrickson's Product Development release processes.


• Interface with the Engineering team during product development and design analysis iterations.


• Coordinate all technical aspects of a project and component design utilizing the Product Development Processes.


• Generate creative design solutions based on external and internal customer needs for elastomer components and other suspension components.


• Create and revise CAD solid models and drawings in compliance with the ASME Y14.5M - 1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard.


• Generate layouts to determine packaging and component interfaces.


• Create and maintain drawings for mold tooling, assembly tooling, lab test fixturing and quality gauges.


• Follow all procedures for creating, revising, and releasing drawings into Teamcenter.


• Produce tolerance stack studies that 1) ensure proper assembly and function of mating suspension and vehicle components, 2) define the maximum allowable tolerances for manufacturing, and 3) determine the effect of any proposed tolerance changes.


• Coordinates with CAD, FEA, and validation lab personnel. Interfaces with other departments in support of the above responsibilities.


• Develops and communicates technical design and test aspects of the project with suppliers and customers.


• Designs, validates, creates test reports and ensures production readiness.


• Participates in Engineering design reviews and APQP manufacturing and supplier reviews.


• Support team members in creation of technical publications and customer presentations.


• Support continuous improvement by investigating and developing procedures within the Engineering Department.


• Support the development of new employees through training, ensuring that all CAD processes and procedures will be followed as defined.


• Other duties as assigned.


• Provides continuous improvement through employee development, process improvement, and elimination of waste.


The successful candidate will possess:


• Bachelor of Science degree in technical discipline required.


• BSME/BSAgE/BS AeroE preferred.


• 3-5 years experience, which includes:


o Experience as a mechanical Designer using a solid modeling package preferably Siemens NX. Prefer experience in parametric modeling and creating assemblies using mating conditions/assembly constraints.


o Preferable to have design experience with the following manufacturing methods: molded elastomer products, casting, forging, fabrications, stamping, extrusions, mold design.


o Exposure to or training in vehicle dynamics, elastomers, vibration and controls background


• Must be proficient with Windows and PC applications (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.).


• Exposure and familiarity with


o ASME Y14.5M - 1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standards.


o Dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), gauging and inspection strategies.


o Tolerance stack studies


o finite element analysis and identifying problem areas to offer and implement solutions.


• Ability to manage own time, priorities, and resources to achieve goals.


• Promotes cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and deliverables.


• Ability to work in a self-directed manner.
