Responsible for setting up clinical samples for microbiological testing and review- Monitor equipment for proper operation and complete appropriate documentation. Establish and improve on current Lab Operations processes and procedures.
Receives Specimen drop-off from patients and clinical departments as needed. Prepare samples for Laboratory Analysis e.g labeling, centrifuging including preparing samples for Reference Lab testing. Retrieves patient information from LIS, Locates patient lab orders, entry of patient registration and lab orders as needed.
Assist with testing of clinical samples.
Assist with quality control program.
Inventory control- assist in supporting all microbiology areas with small equipment maintenance, organism inventory, frozen stock, inventory stocking, and receiving of materials.
Reviews/monitors outstanding specimen reports for chemistry department. Delivers STAT specimens immediately to laboratory sections after receipt of specimen. Delivers routine specimens to appropriate laboratory within 10 minutes of receipt. Prepare samples for reference Lab testing. Works on problem resolution/tracking of pending tests.
Records daily temperatures of refrigerators and freezers in chemistry area. Perform and record all water chemistry testing and complete required area documentation.
Establishes and maintains good rapport and cooperative working attitude with co-workers and other hospital staff, as well as patients and visitors.
Participates and/or assists in laboratory education and training. May serve as a trainer for new hires. Attends continuing education programs.
Maintains neat and accurate records and a clean and orderly work area. Recognizes and reports discrepant results or conditions to the supervisor.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures.
Assists other staff with pertinent information as required. e.g. answering telephones

Follows all established departmental and laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols when performing all tasks.
Attention to detail and accuracy accompanied by flexibility to adapt to varying workloads must be applied each day.
Each problem is to be resolved in a professional and timely manner.
Any problem that cannot be resolved must be escalated to the next level (e.g. lead, technical specialist) for assistance.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to solve problems, computer skills, and customer service skills are required. Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and/or prior laboratory experience preferred.
