Job Description Summary



Operates and maintains equipment and systems including but not limited to: plant water supply systems, water softener systems, compressed air systems, steam and condensate systems, raw storage environmental control systems, freezing and cold storage systems, glycol chilling systems, fire protection systems and waste treatment systems to assure proper operation. Advises supervisory personnel on maintenance requirements, repairs equipment, and performs maintenance activities that sustains equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime.



Job Description




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.


Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.


Required to pass a pulmonary/fit test yearly (due to the use of SCBA).


Includes but is not limited to the following: start up, operation and shut down of boiler, refrigeration and auxiliary systems. Reads meters and gages or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.


Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases. Records tank levels, chemical and lubricant supplies. Records other readings in daily logs and sheets as assigned.


Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.


Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.


Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, seals, gaskets, valves, recorders, gages, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components. Troubleshoots, repairs and welds equipment as needed to sustain reliable and optimal operations.


Performs water titration tests and adds chemical additives, such as salt and chemicals into tanks to prevent scale buildup and to clean boiler lines.


Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operators logs as assigned.


Performs and documents line checks, corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance, including the lubrication and inspection of equipment to sustain equipment reliability.


Examines parts to detect imperfections, identify reason for failure, and to take corrective action.


Performs and documents troubleshooting of electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems and controls.


Performs and documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of plant equipment.


Evaluates equipment for performance, performs adjustments, etc., as needed to assure optimal equipment performance and the production of quality potato products.


Performs non-routine maintenance jobs assigned by B&R maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management and will perform repairs with minimal supervision.


Must understand and follow all applicable plant safety policies including but not limited to lockout / tagout procedures.



OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:



Must be able to identify and name stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum.


Maintains a neat, orderly work area.


Follows instruction given in work logs ,equipment manuals, etc.


Repair or assist in repairs in other areas of the plant as instructed by the maintenance lead, Supervision or Management.


Cut, weld and repair/install piping and equipment to company specifications using prints, sketches, diagrams and blue prints.


Assist with the coaching of new employees in the proper and safest way to repair equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; two-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of four years education and related experience and/or training.



LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write accurate information in English. Ability to effectively present or listen to information in one-on-one and small group situations with all other employees of the organization in English.



MATHMATICAL SKILLS: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.



REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
