TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, Inc. is seeking a full-time Technician II, Fiber Optic Splicer to join our team in Orlando, FLorida.
Summary: The primary responsibilities of the Fiber Techs are to fusion splice fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings; read, create, and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams; maintain control of outside plant (OSP) activities surrounding the assigned work site(s); take and maintain accurate splicing and field notes; support project timelines; inspect, design, and provide accurate records for projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Installation, preventive, and corrective maintenance of fiber optic cables, network communications equipment,
Completes reports, logs, and performs shift-to-shift communications in accordance with established policies, procedures, and local practices,
Responds to corrective maintenance requests or alarms within contract required time frame,
Diagnoses and repairs hardware, software, and system issues,
Reports the technical status of the system with accuracy and completeness,
Restores equipment to operational status as quickly as possible,
Isolation of faults in units or components,
Field test of units or components to ensure they work correctly before leaving work area,
Maintenance of spare equipment and parts following company established policies and guidelines.
Education:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Required Skills and Experience:
Typically requires a minimum of 3-4 years of related experience,
Must maintain a valid driver's license,
Must successfully complete required background / drug screening that TransCore initiates as part of the hiring process; additionally, successfully complete a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) background screen when required by project,
Basic computer and networking experience,
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence,
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization,
Work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice,
Able to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team,
Follows established procedures on routine work,
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment,
Ability to safely work in aerial lifts including bucket trucks of various heights (40ft up to 80ft).
Practical experience with electronics/technology hardware,
Knowledge of and experience with:
Splicing fiber optic cables including both loose tube, high density and ribbon optic cables,
Constructing a proper splice case, including but not limited to, grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing,
Maintaining splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Class B CDL license,
Experience in construction with Outside Plant Telecom Engineering and OTDR reporting,
