Foundry Employee Level 2

OVERVIEW:

The role centers on ensuring efficient and safe foundry operations through the execution of various molding processes and adherence to safety regulations. The technician will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, such as overhead cranes, and performing tasks related to the assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of molds. Additionally, the position involves analyzing defects and implementing corrective actions to enhance produced mold quality. Commitment to safety, effective communication, and proactive equipment maintenance are essential aspects of this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety and Quality Leadership:

  • Adhering to environmental health and safety regulations
  • Promoting good housekeeping and conducting daily inspections to prevent downtime of tools and equipment

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Organizing and preparing patterns for molding processes
  • Supporting team efforts through effective communication and collaboration

Decision-Making and Initiative:

  • Analyzing molding and casting defects to suggest corrective actions
  • Completing appropriate paperwork to ensure accuracy and accountability

Planning and Coordination:

  • Rigging and operating up to 40,000 pounds with an overhead crane
  • Creating molds from patterns and loose patterns and conducting blender calibrations

Inventory and Asset Management:

  • Disassembling and re-assembling flasks and patching and repairing damaged molds
  • Using a Baume hydrometer to ensure proper density of mold wash

Training and Communication:

  • Reading and understanding work instructions to execute tasks effectively
  • Applying mold wash using various methods, including brush, spray, and flow coat

Supervision and Delegation:

  • Understanding basic principles of risers, runner systems, and down sprues
  • Demonstrating knowledge of equipment operation, including forklifts and mold handling machinery

Education:

High school diploma or GED

QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently:
  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling <75 lbs.

  • Driving forklifts
  • Operating cranes
