Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
The Senior Medical Technologist is part of the management team and, as such, will be required to perform in a limited supervisory capacity. Each Senior Medical Technologist will be assigned a specific area in which they will be expected to serve as a subject matter expert (SME), assisting the management team including the Laboratory Director, Technical Director, Laboratory Manager and Supervisor to assure accurate, reliable and timely specimen testing.

In this role, you will:
Assist in developing appropriate test method selection
Assists with adequate method verification and/or validation as new tests are introduced and current tests are modified
Reviews proficiency testing (and recommends changes when necessary) and assures compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirements
Assures all proficiency testing samples are tested in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and the results of proficiency testing are returned to the appropriate accrediting agencies and/or regulatory bodies in a timely manner for inclusion in grading events and peer comparison
Ensures appropriate staff review proficiency testing reports and assists with resolution proposals for any needed corrective action
Ensures corrective action plans are implemented in a timely fashion to prevent future errors
Assists with the establishment of a quality assessment plan for the assigned area, enlisting assistance from technical staff for data collection and other duties as needed
Assists with the development of a quality control program, assures it is followed on all shifts, and maintains the program with the assistance of available software or quality control providers support
Establishes a written procedure for all analytical test performed and reviews annually, or sooner if updates are needed. Assures availability of procedures to all personnel
Identifies deviations from established laboratory procedures, documents these deviations and the required remedial action, and ensures these findings are communicated with the staff members, supervisor and managers
Ensures corrected reports are issued as soon as an accurate result can be achieved and notifies customer service for prompt client notification
Assure competency for all technical staff working in the assigned area, including initial training and maintained readiness, by monitoring all phases of testing that apply (pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical)
Responsible for assurance of training for new instrumentation and new procedures. Handles remediation of mistakes or issues with a given procedure
Assists with inventory management as directed by supervisor
Assist with teaching duties with AEL partner colleges and universities
Serves as on-site supervisor for weekend/holiday work assignments
While this position is not solely responsible for scheduling, counseling, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations or time keeping, recommendations for each of these are to be communicated to supervisor/manager
All you need is:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and completion of AMA approved program of Medical Technology.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures as normally acquired through 4 years medical technology experience.
Demonstrates ability to perform at high standards and ability to assume job responsibilities as normally acquired through 3-6 months orientation in the specific area.
Tennessee Supervisory Medical Technology license
Certification by ASCP, or the equivalent
