Job Description SummaryWake Forest Facilities, Real Estate, and Planning offers a Monday - Friday work schedule (typically) with no travel and generous PTO, benefits, and retirement plans. Tools, uniforms, and work shoes are provided.


Works with Maintenance and Utilities leadership and operations teams to create and manage improvement programs for HVAC, Building Automation, Electrical, & Plumbing Systems for the Reynolda Campus and perimeter properties.
Job Description


Essential Functions:




  • Works with other managers as appropriate to create, plan, design, and implement building energy management projects as they are funded. This includes evaluating innovative technologies, creating feasibility studies, data collection methodologies, small project management, and follow-up documents.




  • Responsible for monitoring HVAC automation functions and analyzing energy consumption within each building, communicating system deficiencies, and recommending changes as appropriate. Will work to optimize systems function and building performance; monitor building automation systems; review all building system operations and make recommendations for changes; and perform benefit/cost analysis to support changes and/or replacement of system components.




  • Performs building retro-commissioning efforts on existing facilities by working closely with maintenance staff, including BAS control sequence improvements, assessing BAS alarms, and making changes to improve the conditions.




  • Conducts regular energy audit walk-throughs of each building to determine the existence of high energy sources using devices and recommends corrective actions.






Other Functions:




  • This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity in the event of campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management. Essential personnel are subject to recall inside/outside their normal schedule. Additional details can be found in the Wake Forest University Policy on Weather other Unusual Conditions.




  • Is subject to recall after hours in the event of campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management.




  • Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate Assistant Superintendent and to the Safety Director if necessary.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:




  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with a specialized technical license, CEM, and/or other certification with 6-10 years experience in higher education, institutional, or similar multi-site maintenance operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.




  • Must have technical knowledge of building systems and generally accepted best practices in operations and efficiency methodologies related to such systems.




  • Ability to effectively understand and utilize control systems and other computer software systems to monitor, interface, diagnose, and troubleshoot systems as required.




  • Ability to work with maintenance managers to coordinate and direct maintenance staff in improved operating procedures, retro-commissioning efforts, and other system-related activities.




  • Ability to practice effective verbal and written communication with internal and external customers and service providers.




  • Ability to research and analyze problems within University-owned facilities.




  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be insurable.







Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:




  • Experience with control strategies for institutional or commercial HVAC systems




  • Prefer a minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems including: Johnson Controls Metasys, Schneider Electric/Yamas, and Alerton Control Systems.






Accountabilities:




  • Responsible for own work only.




  • Occasionally, they may supervise student workers or temporary help.






Physical Requirements:




  • Medium work. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing.




  • Close visual acuity is required for tasks such as operating machines, using measurement devices, and/or visual inspections of small parts or devices.




  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to hazards.
