San Jose Water Company is recruiting for an Assistant Engineer in the Pipelines Engineering group. Under the general direction of the Engineer Supervisor and Engineering Unit Manager, the Assistant Engineer is responsible for the design of improvement drawings and many other aspects related with the replacement of transmission and distribution system infrastructure.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform engineering work related to the preparation of improvement plans for pipelines, hydrants, services, and other water system facilities. Make effective use of CAD to detail construction drawings for the replacement of infrastructure that includes existing and proposed utilities. Prepare detailed construction cost estimates, construction bid documents and acquire required permits for construction.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and practices of Civil Engineering as applied to water supply distribution and operation
Knowledge of construction methods, materials and specifications
Useful and proficient knowledge of CAD (AutoCad)
Functional use of engineering mathematics and ability to solve problems with engineering calculations
Ability to create well-written engineering documents and correspondence
Ability to work independently and to complete challenging assignments
Competent in the use of engineering and office software employed by the company
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (from accredited school) and possession of a valid EIT certificate
Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid California driver's license (minimum Class C) and have a satisfactory driving record
Compensation:
$60.98-66.94
