Job Description:

This position has responsibility for the management of the college's access control systems. This includes, but is not limited to, organizing and scheduling with non-Meharry vendors, Meharry department managers, Safety and Security management and Campus Operations personnel to ensure security and authorized access is maintained. The mission of this role is to facilitate access for all Meharrians on campus while maintaining a safe and secure environment. Success within this role relies heavily on the ability to take initiative, manage time efficiently, learn and adapt quickly and maintain accuracy in written and verbal communication.



Daily Operations



• Responsible for the management and supervision of the college's Access Card and Keyed Security Systems. Will identify Meharry and non-Meharry students and employees and assign access roles as well as provide an accurate access control system.
• Maintains key and access card inventory, maintaining an accurate and updated issuance log and ensures workplace is in neat and organized condition.
• Manages setting security levels and parameters for individual access card systems, ensuring that appropriate security clearance and access levels are applied to faculty, staff and student access cards.
• Monitor and manage the Meharry card access system as it pertains to the dynamic campus access and security needs and creates access profiles and issues Meharry ID badges.
• Participates in meetings with personnel from other areas of the institution to coordinate plans for growth and development.
• Participates in periodic management meetings to keep top management informed of concerns.
• Prepares periodic activity reports for management.
• Prepares and submits reports/data/records for local or state compliance.
• Responds to general calls for service and coordinates with vendors or Campus Operations to facilitate repairs or purchases pertaining to access control management.
• Assists other departments as required for essential job functions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor within the departmental mission or job description.
• Prepares and submits applicable follow-up reports.
• Develops rapport with members of the college community to address concerns relating to access control.



Essential Functions



  • Access Control: Maintains and manages the access control system of the college, updates and assign security levels, creates ID profiles and issue ID badges, creates access events as assigned.

  • Maintenance : Organizes and schedules meetings between department heads and outside vendors to facilitate repairs or new installations of access control.

  • Reports: Updates and maintains an accurate log of items and equipment needed for job functions, access events and security profiles in order to present status reports to management.

  • Community Building: Establishes rapport with Meharrians to address the needs of the various departments in a timely manner. Further, communicates with management issues and concerns that are outside of their capabilities.




Required Skills



  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Solutions.

  • Ability to learn, understand and manage the College's access control system.

  • Knowledge of campus safety and security procedures/protocols.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and take initiative.

  • Proper time management and punctuality.




Required Education and Experience



  • Associate's degree preferred.

  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Key Control or Access System preferred.

  • Relevant work or military experience can be substituted for formal education.
