Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept Portland State University is nationally recognized as setting a standard for urban universities in the 21st century. The University is strategically located in the population and business center of Oregon on a 32-acre campus with 41 major buildings in the tree-lined Park Blocks district of downtown Portland. Total enrollment exceeds 23,000 including more than 5,000 graduate students. Portland State was granted university status in 1969 and is a relatively young and growing university with an active continuing education program. The Branford Price Millar Library holds 1.28 million bound volumes and 8,900 serial subscriptions. As an urban university, Portland State serves as the center of the educational network in the Portland metropolitan area.
Position Summary The New Student Programs Coordinator provides coordination of daily tours, virtual tours, and events. This position reports to the Associate Director of New Student Programs and collaborates to plan, develop, and execute events. This position will also work closely with the Group Visits Coordinator, Welcome Center Manager, and Admissions Recruitment team to schedule events and support students who visit PSU. The Coordinator will contribute to a campus environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates differences. This position will function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree;
• At least one year of full-time experience working in admissions, new student programs, registration or a closely aligned area in higher education;
• Bilingual English/Spanish – ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish;
• Ability to problem solve quickly during programs and events;
• Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in an organized fashion;
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse constituents;
• Experience working with Latinx students and families;
• Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications;
• Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, high volume office;
• Ability to work well with others in collaborative environment;
• Excellent communication skills with ability to discuss difficult situations in a calm and professional manner; and
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications • BA/BS with 3+ years of related experience in higher education administration, student affairs, communications or related field;
• 1+ years supervision experience

Work Days/Hours 40 hours per week usually Monday to Friday, including some evenings and weekends.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary range for this position will be between $51,984 and $56,172.
