Purpose:
Responsible for accounting and financial reporting activities for small, U.S. affiliated companies of Zeon Chemicals L. P. This includes supervising one accounting professional responsible for various aspects of accounting, financial reporting and budgeting.
Job Functions/Accountabilities:
Responsible for managing activities that lead to generation of affiliated companies financial reporting which includes general ledger, cash management, fixed assets and expense accounting.
Manage activities associated with completion of quarterly reviews and annual financial audits. This includes monthly, quarterly, and annual parent company reporting package, if applicable.
Manage activities associated with filings of required tax returns and preparation of annual tax provision, both by third party tax preparer.
Work with internal auditor and management to implement Japanese Sarbanes Oxley across affiliated companies including but not limited to documentation of accounting processes and key controls, walkthroughs and testing.
Ensure proper segregation of duties regarding accounting processes and financial systems access and authorization as well as monitoring activities where segregation of duties is not viable.
Provide recommendations on improvements to financial processes and systems; document and implement those recommendations.
Communicate with management to gain understanding of business and to make proper decisions when gathering financial information for affiliated companies.
Work with information technology group (IT) to establish and improve financial systems that meet the needs of both our external and internal customers.
Manage forecasting and annual budget processes. This includes responsibility for preparing income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts and budgets.
Actively participate and manage SAP implementations to bring new affiliated companies under the Shared Services support model.
Stay abreast of changes in accounting rules that the affiliated companies must conform to (both financial and tax) and perform in-depth technical accounting research when necessary.
Manage, develop, and motivate staff of accounting professional(s). Develop employee performance plans and assess and provide feedback through formal performance evaluations. Support professional development and enable employees to optimize their contribution to the department.
Collaborate with other areas, such as Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Sales & Marketing to gain understanding of processes, policies, and procedures, including sharing of resources as applicable.
Continuously seek ways to improve the performance of business processes and ensure that customers' (both internal and external) needs are met.
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor. (Note: these duties will be deemed essential, or marginal based on content.)
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Masters Degree in Accounting/MBA and/or CPA preferred.
Experience:
8+ years’ experience in all aspects of accounting including supervision is critical. Exposure to financial analysis very important.
SAP experience a plus.
Exposure to Sarbanes Oxley a plus
Special Qualifications:
Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and written, with both internal and external contacts very important. The ability to supervise and motivate direct reports is essential. Understanding of overall accounting rules and theory financial reporting compliance a must.
