Job Description:
Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of youth's (YRTC-Hastings) recreation/leisure activities program which includes, but is not limited to: athletics, swimming pool activities, music, art, crafts, movies, experimental educational activities, and other cultural events. Supervises the daily use of an inventory control system for all recreational equipment and materials to assure minimum breakage, loss, etc. Maintains cleanliness of recreation equipment. Assists in the maintenance of records and keeps written records on youth's participation in all recreational programs. Plans and coordinates special events on campus, such as Summer Fun Day, Harvest Fest, and the Holiday Carnival. Assists in the recruiting and scheduling of community recreational opportunities. Escorts residents outside the institution for all forms of recreational activities. Actively encourages youth participation in all activities.
Work schedule is 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Thursday through Monday
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualificatons: Bachelor's degree in recreation management, recreation therapy, or a related field. Experience working with youth in recreation management, recreation therapy, or a related field may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
Other: Must be 21 years of age. Must have a valid driver license.
Knowledge of: rules, regulations and strategies of sports and other recreational activities; institution rules and regulations; principles, techniques, and practices of recreational activities
Skill in: performing various sports, art, crafts, music, and other recreational activities; operating standard recreational equipment; leading recreational activities.
Ability to: successfully complete training courses in CPR/First Aid, Handle with Care deescalation/intervention techniques; learn to handle youth in all stages of development and rehabilitation; effectively redirect behavior; explain rules and regulations of sports and recreational activities in a positive manner; communicate effectively by giving instructions and documenting youth participation; understand the treatment program; organize, direct, develop interest, and instruct youth in recreational activities; communicate effectively; coordinate activities with outside community and volunteer groups; actively participate in activities such as sports, ,swimming, games, music, arts, and crafts.
