Overview

  • Leadership/ Supervision:
    • Participates in the recruitment of staff. Coordinates onboarding of new staff. Actively seeks to resolve staff issues. Responsible for appropriate disciplinary actions. Supports the work of all staff committees. Demonstrates leadership practices, which influence others so that the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Respiratory Care Department and Hospital are achieved. Utilizes theory, research and critical thinking in the enactment, demonstration and mentoring of others so that demonstrated expertise is available to supervised personnel and colleagues. Integrates age specific/ developmental theory and cultural sensitivity into management practice. Supports clinical research activities. Reviews and approves vacation & work schedule to ensure adequate staff coverage 24/7.
  • Education:
    • Plans, designs, and tracks respiratory care practitioner education. Conducts educational in-services, collaborates with members of the health care team to provide respiratory care specific education. Participates in centralized education as needed. Plans, designs and tracks orientation of new employees and preceptors.Maintains personal and professional growth and professional development of staff by participating in educational programs and professional organizations. Plans, designs and organizes department website for staff education and dissemination of information.
  • Clinical Practice:
    • Assures the transformation of theory into practice. Establishes developes and maintains evidence based poliicies, procedures and standards of care for the clinical practice in the all populations. Directs development of priority competencies (technical skills, critical thinking, human relationship skills) for staff so that the role performance is continually maintained/improved at the highest level. Coordinates the provision of care in meeting the needs of patients, families and staff, as needed. Participates in the application of evidence-based practice in the care delivery model, throughout the hospital. Utilizes knowledge of age specific/development specific data to assist staff in assessing patient care needs and planning care. Coordinates care delivery model with patient safety as a priority. Assures adherence to policies and procedures. Education of Respiratory Care staff regarding revisions to policies and procedures.
  • Quality Management:
    • Facilitates patient movement through the system, coordinates and facilitates quality related through put, as needed. Participates, leads and coordinates continuous quality improvement activities. Participates in the formulation and dissemination of unit goals and objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related healthcare management field.
  • 2 years Respiratory Care management experience in complex organization environments.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories. Strong communication skills, teamwork (demonstrated ability to build team and integrate existing teams).
  • A current, valid Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner's (LRCP) credential issued by the Health Licensing Office for the State of Oregon
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics


Qualifications



  • Program or project leadership experience. Charge and/or preceptor or educator experience
  • Database queries and reporting, data analysis, Lean methodologies
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
