Overview

The Molecular Technologist performs high complexity genomic testing, including all phases of Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis. This position requires a strong background in molecular biology principles and processes, knowledge of laboratory and molecular biology-specific terminology, equipment, materials, techniques, and safety. Additional requirements include the ability to perform routine clinical throughput and troubleshoot procedures, and to follow written and oral instructions accurately. This position will enable the laboratory to provide high quality testing services that support the overall patient care mission of the Knight Cancer Institute and OHSU Hospitals and Clinics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation using amplicon and hybridization methods, and sequencing on Illumina platforms. Analysis of NGS data.
  • Submits laboratory data to the director and to the lab information system for use in preparation of patient reports. Maintains appropriate records. Performs additional assignments as deemed necessary by the director or laboratory section coordinator.
  • Participates in research and development of new laboratory methods.


Responsibilities

Education & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science AND completion of a training program or one year of experience performing molecular techniques OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to complete time sensitive tasks according to protocols
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as superb analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems.


Qualifications



  • MT or MLS certification preferred

  • Next Generation Sequencing wet bench and data analysis
