RS&H is seeking a Water Resources Engineering Associate I to join our Infrastructure Group. This position will be based out of our Timonium, MD office.

This position will be engaged on a large variety of transportation-focused projects, from large and complex expressway/interstate roadway facilities to smaller, safety-focused pedestrian improvements. Job Summary: This position is responsible for the drainage design and production of reports and construction plans for infrastructure projects. Will support the development of stormwater management design, stormwater collection and conveyance, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, design, and modeling, water quality and quantity design, environmental permitting, and sustainability practices. Accepted and innovative water resources engineering practices will be applied to design that are in compliance with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration’s, other transportation agencies’, regional airports’, and local agencies’ standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes and interprets data. Performs analyses of design, planning, and impact studies, as well as cost analyses, report preparation, design requirements, site selection, and limited design layouts.
  • Assists with Hydraulics and hydrology analysis, design, and review
  • Assists with storm drainage system design
  • Assists with erosion and sediment control design and compliance
  • Prepares permit documents for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program and all other local, state, and federal permitting agencies.
  • All local, state, and federal permitting requirements
  • Assists with stormwater management facility inspection and retrofit design
  • Preparing Plan Review Division and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) package submittals
  • Perform as-needed field reviews to maintain and increase understanding of construction practices and design applications.
  • Formulates and solves problems with timely and innovative solutions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within the scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years relevant experience.
  • Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Proficient in production software and construction document production.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following:
    • Watershed delineation and determination of hydrological parameters
    • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling(HEC-HMS, HY-8, HEC-RAS, SMS SRH-2D, SWMM, and ICPR/StormWise)
    • Drainage Analysis and Design using Geopak Drainage and Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis (SUDA) for Open Roads Designer (ORD)
    • CADD (Microstation SS10, ORD, and/or Civil 3D)
    • ArcGIS for water resources projects
    • Plans, Specifications, and Estimates production
