The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, selecting and procuring functions directly associated with the purchasing of products to be sold in stores. This position is required to have effective communication with vendors and secure appropriate deals on merchandise that meets the company's margin expectations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Initiate and direct all aspects of the buying process to ensure purchase of the best products at the best price.
Work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products and build relationships.
Attend trade shows to keep informed of new products and ideas and develop vendor relations.
Research products and markets for competitive knowledge.
Set retail and mark down pricing for merchandise.
Develop allocation plans which support the departmental goals to increase sales.
Manage the department financials for which they buy.
Determine which products should be featured in advertising.
Negotiate prices, discount terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise.
Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to determine sales and how much inventory is needed.
Manage a high volume of buying workload.
Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelors' degree preferred.
Higher education, including two and four year degrees related to business management required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in buying or demonstration of skills and learning through an internal development program and selection process.
Ability to work effectively in a professional environment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Ability to effectively communicate with all team members as well as guests.
Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
Ability to complete assignments in the time allotted.
Physical Requirements:
Travel to trade shows including overnight travel is required.
Physical ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
