Description
Armstrong Service Inc. (ASI) in partnership with Beech-Nut Nutrition, is interviewing for a Full-time Utility Supervisor in Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Armstrong Utility Supervisors are responsible for our customer's utility systems on their property. They report to a Regional Service Manager and take direction from the customer and Armstrong's Operations and Maintenance Director. They work with minimal supervision applying a level of skill and judgment that leads to quick and accurate decisions while having the support of a larger management team.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include maintenance and operation of high-pressure water-tube boilers, water treatment, hot water, and compressed air systems as well as supporting equipment (tanks, vessels, piping, valves, traps, pumps, etc.)
Provide daily operations, supporting the needs of the factory, and other Armstrong Service projects to ensure high levels of customer service that result in client satisfaction and an enjoyable experience for all. Must apply knowledge of various utility systems (steam, compressed air, water treatment, hot water, etc.) to perform all regular and routine plant operations and maintenance, including operations of equipment, lab and clerical work.
Other duties as assigned and not limited to the above
- Developed leadership skills, knowledge of thermodynamics and chemistry to apply to utility equipment operations
--- Preferred to hold boiler operating, HVAC or other technical license(s)
- Availability to flex working hours and work in excess of 40-hours per week (weekend and holiday time requirements are typical). Work flexible shifts and provide leadership on off-shifts when the Lead Operator is not available
- Understanding of business and management principles towards strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
- Understanding of economic and accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- Ability to delegate work to their team, understanding workloads so work is balanced and efficient
- Ability to monitor/assess performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action including progressive discipline
- Understanding of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems
- Ability to give effective/understood oral and written instructions
- Critical listening skills to hear what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate
- Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do, making adjustments as appropriate
- Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing, and the ability to prepare and communicate ideas and reports so others will understand
- Understanding of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results that will assist with the best solution and solve problems
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Recognize and work with others to resolve the problem in a fair and efficient manner
- Understanding and ability to read equipment instruction and operations manuals, drawings, schematics, and blueprints
- Mathematics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications
- Understanding of equipment alignment, vibration, balancing and non-destructive testing
- Ability to wear / train others on all required safety and protective gear and equipment
- Using computers and computer systems to program, set up functions, enter data, or process information in support of the site documentation needs
- In addition to general computer, tablet, smartphone, camera use, have ability to use a variety of instruments and hand tools
- Ability to use various software and productivity solutions: Lotus Notes/SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, and CMMS/ERP (Maximo, SAP, IFS, etc.)
