YOUR ROLE
Supervises and coordinates activities in either the clearing of imports shipments through U.S. customs, or the customs clearance activities in the customs house brokerage or gateway environment, in accordance with Federal or foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported / exported products. Oversees daily operations of the department, to ensure profitability and compliance with company policies, ISO Guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements; providing excellent customer service through timely and accurate processing and compliance with government regulations and / or company policies. Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values.


There are two levels of supervisor. The Supervisor I supervises smaller teams, less complex or smaller scope of operations. The Supervisor II oversees larger groups which typically includes several teams, complex and broad scope of operations.


WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  • Review and reconcile all management and financial reports for department.
  • Review profitability and growth of department regularly with operations.
  • Work with operations to establish business plan and goals for department.
  • Develop and maintain excellent service to internal and external customers at all times.
  • Ensure independent service commitments of CEVA import clients are met and that compliant declarations are made to U.S. Customs and related regulatory groups.
  • Serve as interface with Customs and other Federal Agencies to ensure compliance with all pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Oversee or compute duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight and volume of merchandise exported/imported to and from foreign destinations.
  • Supervise the preparation of U.S. Customs Documentation prepared on in-house systems of all assigned services staff; communicate with customs officials as appropriate to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays.
  • Oversee pre-alerts daily to determine whether freight is arriving as expected and documents are received within the time standards specified. Confirm arrival time with carrier and the arrival of documents within one business day of freight arrival.
  • Ensure files and records are set up relevant to the consolidation, contact origin office for incomplete information.
  • Provide written quotations as requested by customers and provide copy of quotation to manager and document customer profile information.
  • Coordinate timely clearance and delivery of imported cargo based on company and customer service commitment standards; communicate with customers to ensure proper handling of goods, and keep customers advised of changes in import regulations, tariff and bonding requirements.
  • Examine documents including invoices, bills of lading and shipping statements to ensure compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt and documentation of imported/exported products.
  • Establish, monitor and revise policies, procedures and service standards for customs clearance operations, and write procedures for the handling of each account. Includes classifications, schedule of service, shipment entry, and booking process, Consularization Regulations and export services.
  • Provides consultation to customers on the importation of goods thru U.S. Customs, governmental regulations/inspections, changes in import regulations, transportation, bonding/insurance requirements and general industry expertise.
  • Oversee and monitor team performance - both quantity or quality - audit shipment documents and conduct periodic client reviews to identify areas of concern in the clients' export processes. Communicate / escalate transaction problems or irregularities to manager and assist in identifying solutions.
  • Train new staff in assigned duties.
  • Assess progress of trainees and assign additional duties as appropriate.
  • Conduct training courses and seminars for staff and clients in areas of shipping and export regulations and procedures. Provide guidance and advice as necessary.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports and address employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in all areas of breakbulk, import, or export areas, through self-study, as well as courses and seminars presented by the company and other approved sources, regular review of trade publications and attendance of all appropriate seminars in assigned area.


WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Education & Certifications
  • High School Degree or GED required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred; or an equivalent combination of work experience and completion of the LDP Program.
Experience
  • Supervisor I: Minimum four years related work experience required for a Supervisor I, supervisory experience preferred.
  • Supervisor II: Minimum of at least five years of experience, including two years of supervisory experience.


Special Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the company's or related products, services, and operations.
  • Knowledgeable in Export Administration, Department of Commerce, and Consularization regulations, Uniform Custom Practice 500 (UCP 500), and recordkeeping.
  • Knowledge of NATA, Free Trade Agreements, CTPAT, additional tariff requirements, OGA's, ACH, and all other related trade legislation, rules, and regulations.
  • Basic understanding of business financial principles including P & L's, budgets, payroll, financial reporting and expense control.
  • Basic understanding of sales and business development practices.
  • Basic understanding of health, safety and environmental principles and practices.
  • Applying related laws, rules, and regulations.
Communication Skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and customers.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
