Summary of Position:

As the Accounting Manager for The Princeton Review, you will be charged with driving the efficient preparation of financial statements in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The Accounting Manager is an essential role on our accounting team that supports all areas of our business, from our broad Field organization to our centralized corporate departments. Working with professionals throughout the organization this position is both analytical and collaborative, as we work with business partners to promote best practices and process improvements, and report on financial results to our parent company. Attention to detail and problems solving skills are essential traits for this successful candidate.  Note this position is fully remote. Responsibilities:

Accounting


  • Manage and oversee the operations of the accounting department including: the proper recording of revenue, expenses including expense accruals, and balance sheet items including cash, accounts receivable and deferred revenue. Ensure timeliness, quality, accuracy and completeness of all financial and accounting transactions and reporting.

  • Manage the monthly financial close process in accordance with the close checklist in a timely manner, including the following

    • revenue recognition as per Company policy

    • all costs incurred are properly recorded

    • prepare and review journal entries.

    • review and supervise monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including bank reconciliations.




  • Analyze financial results and perform variance analysis to budget and prior year. Maintain detailed supporting documents. Provide support to the Controller and the CFO as needed, including ad-hoc financial analysis, and special projects.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for internal and external use, including footnote and financial table preparation in US GAAP.

  • Assist with annual close and annual interim & year end audit. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.

  • Coordinate across the various accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, FP&A and tax.

Systems & Processes


  • Develop, maintain and communicate accounting policy and procedures in accordance with US GAAP.


  • Ensure all internal controls are maintained and in compliance with company policy.

  • Actively participate in reviewing the operation of ERP system, modules and processes. Suggest improvements as needed.  Lead the implementation of newly acquired ERP modules and assist in the integration of various accounting software with the ERP system.

  • Identify cost saving & automation opportunities and efficiencies.


  • Supervise a team of professional senior and staff accountants. Manage their capacity and workload allocation, hold them accountable for their assigned tasks, provide training and development and know when issues should be escalated.

 

Education, Background, Experience & Qualifications:


  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience with at least three years of supervisory experience

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA

  • Experience with ERP systems and reporting tools required. Knowledge of MS Dynamics Great Plains (GP) ERP and Management Reporter preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to take initiative and operate independently.

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications:


  • Strong project management, and process improvement skills

  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment and to lead and drive complex initiatives. Demonstrated ability to accurately work with large amounts of financial and accounting data. Good planning and organizational skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate a proven record of being an effective part of a team-oriented staff.

  • Experience with RAMP and Bill.com (Divvy)

Salary: $140,000 - $150,000 per year, based on a 40 hour work week.
