Our Direct Client is looking to hire a 5G O-RAN Test Engineer.
Location: Remote Duration: 12+ Months
As part of the wireless Test team, the Open RAN Test Engineer will support the Engineering team and perform the role of Test and Validation for the RAN network in the following areas:
Analysis, definition and execution of the RAN and O-RAN test plans to meet the customer requirements, ensuring the solution implementation will meet the quality, robustness requirements
Identification, analysis, and mitigation of issues reported from internal and customer lab tests
Log analysis and issue investigation including communication of issues to ecosystem partners and follow up investigations where required
Tracking and reporting of progress to key stakeholders
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in RAN test programs in the 3GPP and O-RAN environments. A willingness to learn and participate in other connectivity testing (Wi-Fi, CBRS etc.) is essential.
Responsibilities.
Contribute to the design of the 5G RAN lab test program including analysis of the requirements, definition of test cases and identification of the required test equipment and test environment.
Participate in investigations in to reported lab issues, ensuring that issues are resolved in a timely manner and that any resulting leanings are captured in an internal "best practices" guidance note for future activities
Identify, investigate, and communicate issues during the testing activities including root cause analysis and enhancement identification
Report to project stakeholders including management and Engineering teams on status of activities
Test, evaluate and bring up Open RAN (O-RAN) based 5G System, BBU (CU and DU) and remote radio head units (RRU) and RIC DUTs in controlled lab wireless environments.
Test and debug customer/ OEM deployment issues and partner with OEMs for resolution through development engineers. This will include log analysis, capturing packets via Wireshark, consisting of a robust understanding of 5G protocol stacks, chasing corner cases, and supporting customers as needed. You will work closely with development and testing teams to resolve issues. This could include modifying system designs and implementing the solution.
Install system images from the ground up to setup 5G servers, controllers, routers, access points and access points, access point controllers, rendering servers, and other software/firmware interfaces
Set up lab/field end-to-end system to enable full functionalities and ensure satisfactory system performance/protocols/features.
Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures.
Characterize system performance, stability, and field testing.
Generate and present system evaluation and test reports to customers.
Minimum Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
Familiarity with 3GPP and O-RAN specifications
3+ years of experience as a field engineer or system test engineer with 5G wireless/cellular systems
3+ years of experience with cellular and/or Wi-Fi standards
End-to-end wireless/cellular system knowledge including device, O-RAN, 5G core network elements (AMF, SMF, UPF, etc.), and integration experience
Scripting skills (Linux system, Python) for data processing
Experience using Wireshark for packet capture
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux systems
Recent hands-on experience with the following lab equipment: Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, Vector Network Analyzer, RF High Impedance probes, Function Generators, Oscilloscope and Multi-meter
Understanding of TCP/IP and Internet protocols in general.
